Who you are
- Are you a strategic negotiator in regard to complex digital licensing deals with proven ability to build high-impact partnerships while overseeing a team of industry professionals?
- 10+ years negotiating and managing a high volume of strategic content partnerships in the music and tech industries with a proven record of securing favorable outcomes
- Experienced deal maker and negotiation strategist
- Strong background in relationship management - fostering long-term relationships in the music industry with the ability to quickly establish credibility with new partners
- Deep understanding of the global music rights landscape
- Ability to frequently travel to US, Europe and other markets
What the job involves
- We are looking for a leader to spearhead our Content Licensing & Partnerships team and propel growth through collaborations with global content owners, including record labels, music publishers, and collecting societies
- This position will be instrumental in shaping SoundCloud’s strategic direction, guiding our product roadmap, and fueling our business growth by creating new value and managing content costs
- Responsible for setting the strategy and priorities for the content licensing group
- Ability to stay ahead of industry trends with a deep understanding of the rapidly evolving landscape of music and audio services
- Work in partnership with cross-functional teams across the organization to lead our deal negotiations with potential partners
- Drive the most effective financial, legal, and feature frameworks to suit SoundCloud’s unique ecosystem and service packages (both existing and yet-to-be-developed)
- Work closely with all aspects of the established music and audio value chain
- Shape and lead SoundCloud’s direct deals with independent artists and audio creators
- Act as a thought leader in the marketplace for how talent can use SoundCloud as a direct conduit to fans and how labels, managers, and publishers can leverage SoundCloud to connect with emerging talent

Today, SoundCloud boasts over 40M artists on its platform, far outpacing Spotify, which has 11M. As a result, SoundCloud is the largest audio discovery platform in a rapidly growing market. According to MIDiA Research, the independent artist market is poised for continued revenue growth in the coming years, further solidifying SoundCloud's place in the industry.
The company plans to scale its audience and expand its services through new offerings, such as the SoundCloud "roster". This tier system is designed to provide artists with significant creative and financial resources, along with market support, rivalling major record labels. While artists retain ownership of their copyrights, they will be represented by SoundCloud, further enhancing the platform's appeal to independent creators.
