Staff Software Engineer, Fastly

• You have at least 7 years of production experience as a software engineer
• At least 2 years of experience working on networking and distributed/cloud systems at scale
• You have at least 3 years of experience with one or more of C, Go, or Rust and affinity for learning new languages
• Proficiency in scripting languages like Python for quick prototyping
• Ability to participate in and help coordinate incident response and mitigation
• Motivated to identify pain points in existing workflows and create solutions via tools and automation
• Formal CS education is not required; demonstrable experience is sufficient

Desirable

• The Edge Delivery team maintains Varnish, Fastly’s core caching platform, as well as adjacent services and tooling. Leveraging C, Go and Rust in different codebases, the team develops a highly-scalable service platform which is responsible for meeting the ever-growing and changing requirements of Fastly's diverse customer base
• We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join this critical team and help to evolve it to help scale our CDN, compute & security infrastructure
• In addition to systems-level work, this role will involve extensive cross-team collaboration as well as the design of various utilities, applications and tools
• Lead full lifecycle projects and facilitate collaboration with other teams at Fastly on interfaces to Varnish and related technologies like VCL
• Write C, Go and Rust code to meet the demands of Fastly’s diverse customer base
• Analyze and address performance and stability issues to meet high scale requirements
• Develop and maintain internal tools to streamline edge delivery, evolving manual tasks into reliable, automatic systems
• Focus on performance, stability, and scalable data extraction tools for Fastly's hosting infrastructure
• Participate in on-call rotation
