Role
Who you are
- MS or PhD degree in a quantitative field or equivalent experience
- Experience in managing teams of data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Hands on experience as a data scientist, research scientist, applied scientist, or machine learning engineer in a technology company
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Experience being a thought partner to improve decision quality and able to influence with expertise
- Demonstrated experience working with ads products and data
Desirable
- Experience working with ads go-to-market and/or sales teams
What the job involves
- You will be a part of the first Marketing Science team at Pinterest. This new initiative is sponsored by Pinterest leadership and has direct visibility to ads leadership
- The team is responsible for understanding what drives performance on Pinterest for advertisers, identifying key opportunities and best practices to unlock improved or expanded value at platform scale, and proactively managing key trends for sustained positive advertising performance
- We are refreshing our new ads offerings to deliver Pinterest’s value as an advertising platform while continue inspire Pinners for the lives they love
- You will work with world class data science talent in building the next generation advertising products. You can become a leader of leaders, developing a best in-class team of technical data scientists
- Build, inspire and grow a high performance team of data scientists that are thought partners to the ads product marketing and sales team, and unlock revenue from more advertisers
- Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of key business metrics and the ability to leverage data insights to drive growth and achieve tangible business outcomes
- Work with product and eng partners help identify and answer important “why and how” questions. Lead the team to structure ambiguous business challenges into actionable plans. Ensure that your team is producing consistently trustworthy and high-quality technical outputs that influence the business. Drive data-driven decision-making aligned with the organization's strategic objectives
- Communicate complex analytical findings and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner
- Be a champion for building highly talented and diverse teams with an inclusive culture

Pinterest's emphasis on visual discovery has differentiated it from competitors and created a more positive and fulfilling experience for its users. Pinterest in many ways provides a respite from the ceaseless negativity that plagues social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and this is perhaps responsible for its userbase expanding to 450 million users in 2022, driven by uptake mostly outside of North America.
Pinterest has not been immune to woes affecting the global tech sector and made about 5% of its workforce redundant at the end of 2022 and the start of 2023. Having restructured to face a challenging climate, it is well-positioned to resume its growth, which has increased consistently year on year. Its immediate goals are to continue to grow its user base and expand the uptake of its short video product, which it aims to monetize.
