Role
Who you are
- Typically requires a minimum of 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a bachelor’s degree; or equivalent practical experience
- Strong experience developing and maintaining internal web applications using C#/Blazor and/or Python
- Hands-on expertise with DevOps practices and tooling, including CI/CD pipeline development (Azure DevOps preferred), version control (Git), and artifact management (Artifactory)
- Experience with automation, infrastructure-as-code, and quality tools such as SonarQube
- Solid understanding of secure software development, system integration, and enterprise-scale architecture
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a track record of cross-functional teamwork
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated commitment to ownership, continuous improvement, and being a reliable, respectful team member
Desirable
- Experience developing software within a DoD, defense, or government contractor environment
- Background in implementing DevSecOps practices in secure environments
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Bicep)
- Working knowledge of secure software development practices, static/dynamic analysis, and artifact attestation
- Experience integrating with enterprise identity and access management systems, including support for SSO, RBAC, and audit logging
- Proficiency with Blazor Server/WebAssembly and Python for building tools in support of secure development workflows
What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer on the Enterprise Operations team, you will work on the development of full-stack applications using C#/Blazor or Python, while driving DevOps automation and CI/CD improvements across our internal platforms
- You will work closely with cross-functional teams to streamline software delivery using Azure DevOps, GitHub, Artifactory, and SonarQube
- Your expertise in infrastructure-as-code, deployment automation, and secure coding practices will help accelerate Shield AI’s mission-critical engineering workflows
- This role offers the opportunity to shape scalable, enterprise-grade solutions that support the company’s rapid growth and operational excellence
- Design and develop scalable, full-stack applications using C#/Blazor or Python, supporting Shield AI’s enterprise workflows and digital infrastructure
- Fostering engineering best practices and driving continual improvement across DevSecOps, code quality (e.g., SonarQube), and platform security
- Help with escalated support tickets in the Enterprise Operations team
Our take
Self-driving vehicles present enormous benefits for the transportation industry, with the potential to increase the safety and efficiency of cars, trucks, and commercial airlines. However, such technological innovation is less present within the military transportation sector, despite the benefits that AI piloting would produce for the operation of drones and aircraft.
Shield AI is developing Hivemind, an AI-driven pilot that can operate drones and aircraft autonomously, without needing GPS, communications, or pilots. In addition to navigation, the technology is also designed to facilitate indoor building clearance, integrated defense breaching, and has the ability to learn and autonomously execute aircraft missions.
Whilst similar AI-driven pilot software has begun to appear in Chinese military research programs, Shield AI's target is the US. By developing fully autonomous piloting integrations for any type of aircraft, the company aims to future-proof the US military without the need for bespoke aircraft design. It has generated massive amounts of funding to support continued scaling and R&D efforts.
