Who you are
- 10+ years in IT leadership roles within a high-growth technology or security-driven environment
- Proven experience managing global IT infrastructure and business applications
- Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach to problem-solving
- Ability to adapt quickly to changes in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment
- Hands-on experience with networking, cloud platforms, cybersecurity best practices, identity providers such as Okta and G Suite business systems
- Ability to be in office 3 days per week in San Mateo, CA
What the job involves
- As the Director of IT at Skydio, you will lead a team to manage and scale the company's IT infrastructure, systems, and services across all locations. You will drive strategic initiatives that enhance IT operations, focusing on scalability, security, and user experience. This role requires a hands-on approach to solve immediate challenges while planning long-term improvements
- Oversee the development, deployment, and support of IT systems, including network, application, and end-user services
- Work with engineering, product, and operations teams to align IT initiatives and support Skydio’s specific project requirements
- Lead the design and implementation of IT strategies that align with business growth and operational needs
- Ensure robust cybersecurity measures to protect Skydio’s assets and maintain compliance with relevant standards
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to optimize cost-effectiveness
- Collaborate with internal teams to implement systems that enhance productivity and support company goals
- Foster a high-performing team by recruiting, developing, and mentoring IT professionals
Our take
A leader in autonomous flight, Skydio builds drones that can track and film targets while avoiding obstacles. Its products have a wide range of applications, most notably for businesses that need to undertake inspections in unsafe places. The drones are also valuable to search and rescue efforts, police forces, and the US army.
Backed by a range of top investors and strategic partners (including Andreesen Horowitz, Levitate Capital, and Next 47) Skydio sets itself apart from its competitors by marketing its products predominantly to businesses. With technology such as 3D scanning and a 360-degree superzoom mode, its drones have a wide range of applications and functionality.
The company raised funding in 2023, which has boosted its valuation to over $2 billion. It has since focussed on R&D, developing and launching the X10 model which is designed for first responders and the military, as well as enhancing its remote control and thermal imaging capabilities. As the largest American drone company, there is no reason Skydio shouldn't remain a key industry actor for years to come.
