Role
Who you are
- 2+ years of professional software engineering industry experience, including developing and maintaining systems in production environments
- Highly collaborative work style, marked by deep user empathy and curiosity
- Fluency in Python and SQL
- Experience in data engineering a plus, including experience with one or more of the following: Pandas, Dagster, Spark, open table formats, data lakes, data warehouses (e.g. Snowflake), AI applications
- Experience with React-based web development a plus
- Excitement for learning about the following (or bonus points for experience!): batteries, renewable energy, scientific research
What the job involves
- The Software Engineering team at Form builds innovative internal and customer-facing tools that touch every part of Form’s product and company
- We’re a Python/React/AWS shop and use a modern data stack including Snowflake/Databricks/Dagster
- Form is hiring a software engineer for our Software for Technology Development team
- This team is responsible for developing scalable, flexible infrastructure for lab-based testing, experimentation, and data applications
- You will build and support the infrastructure that enables our battery scientists to execute lab workflows and consume test data, including data pipelines, downstream data tools, and our web-based application for managing experiment metadata
- This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!
- Build upon our cloud-hosted data pipeline to meet evolving testing requirements and improve data reliability and quality
- Develop and/or integrate downstream data tools and infrastructure. This could range from a platform for custom metric-writing, to infrastructure for model development, to a UI for data observability
- Collaborate closely with members of Form’s battery engineering and R&D teams to deeply understand their needs and provide data access support
- Act as a collaborative member of a distributed software engineering team

Central to the development of the digital revolution is the role of electric grid infrastructure and expansion. A completely electrical infrastructure is restricted by the inherent limitation that electrical energy is difficult and costly to store. Form Energy, however, have created a reliable battery that has the capacity to revolutionize how we use electricity.
Revolutionizing battery storage is at the core of Form Energy’s approach to making renewable energy universal. Form Energy’s battery is based around Iron-air technology that currently has energy storage capacities and operational costs comparable to legacy power plants. In addition to improvements in cost and consistent electricity access, Form Energy’s batteries are scalable, portable, and safe - offering a unique approach to revolutionizing renewable energy storage towards a greener future.
Although renewable energy storage technology remains an emerging industry, a variety of competitors are also driving developments of battery storage technology. However, Form Energy continues to be a key leader in this space, bagging significant investment that will enable it to build its first manufacturing plant and begin selling to customers. Form Energy's progress is highlighted by a deal with Xcel Energy to deploy iron-air battery systems at two of its retiring coal plant sites and with Puget Sound Energy in 2024, to help the company deploy multi-day energy storage systems.
