Role
Who you are
- We’re looking for someone who thrives on solving real-world problems with code, is technology-open, and knows when to build fast and when to build right
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally across backend and frontend
- Strong backend skills (we use Python, Django, PostgreSQL)
- Strong Linux system administration capabilities. Strong familiarity with self hosting, setting up and managing and securing bare linux cloud instances
- Familiarity with Ansible or similar config management tools
- Strong understanding of Containers, Kubernetes ecosystem. Familiarity with cloud native architecture and the cloud native landscape
- Basic Networking experience is a plus
- GitOps experience with ArgoCD or FluxCD is a huge plus
- Basic familiarity with monitoring and observability concepts. familiarity with Prometheus, Loki and Grafana stack is a huge plus
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and its core services. (or any other major cloud provider AWS, Azure...etc)
- Experience in product-centric teams and working closely with non-technical stakeholders
- Curiosity, pragmatism, and a drive to continuously improve both product and platform
- Bonus: experience in regulated industries, healthcare, or security-conscious environments
What the job involves
- As we expand our product portfolio and modernize our platform, we’re looking for a versatile, pragmatic, and forward-thinking Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/x) to help shape the future of digital therapeutics
- You’ll join a cross-functional product team with high ownership, lean processes, and a clear focus: deliver real impact to patients
- Design, develop, and operate scalable software components across our stack – from backend APIs to patient-facing mobile and web applications
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Medical to explore, define, and deliver new product features and improve our current platform
- Drive technical excellence in architecture, code quality, and security – particularly as we operate under healthcare regulations (ISO 62304, TR-03161, MDR)
- Contribute to a platform that powers multiple regulated digital health products across indications like IBS, GERD, and upcoming expansions
- Mentor other developers and help raise the technical bar across the team
Our take
Cara Care, a subsidiary of HiDoc Technologies, provides a companion app for those living with gut health issues such as IBS, IBD, GERD (heartburn / reflux), and indigestion. Research out of the University of Gothenburg estimates that around 40% of adults worldwide are dealing with gastrointestinal issues, highlighting the scale of the problem that Cara Care is attempting to alleviate.
The German startup’s app is growing in popularity and is well-funded, but it isn’t the only one tapping into the increasingly widespread awareness of gut health issues. ZOE and DayTwo have entered into the field with tens of millions in funding, while bootstrapped company Bowelle is also proving popular.
However, Cara Care’s blend of food and symptom diary with remote telehealth care from certified nutritionists helps set it apart. Crucially, many of its nutritionists are covered by existing insurance policies, while the company is also making a big play for employers, who would provide access to a huge network of users. An acquisition by global health group Bayer in 2024 will implement the commercialisation of the Cara Care app, allowing for wider adoption on a global scale.
