Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, with 1-3 years of professional software development experience or a combination of internships and relevant project work
- Proficient in modern programming languages, preferably Python or Golang, with a strong focus on writing clean, maintainable, and testable code
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and microservices architectures, including design, scalability, and fault tolerance
- Experience working with public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, with a focus on cloud-native services and infrastructure management
- Familiarity with observability concepts, such as log aggregation, tracing, and metrics collection, and the tools to implement them
- Working knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL databases and an understanding of when to apply each based on application needs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse teams
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with product and business stakeholders, simplify complex ideas, and drive consensus
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly identify issues and develop effective solutions for resolving challenges or unique problem sets
Desirable
- Domain knowledge in insurance, document creation, configurable services
- Full stack engineer, capable of developing both front-end and back-end code
- Experience with monitoring solutions such as Datadog
- Familiarity with designing and authoring technical design documents, explaining complex systems or features
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts, especially Large Language Models (LLMs), and how they can be applied to practical solutions
What the job involves
- The Documents team is a critical Tier 1 platform team, ensuring the accuracy, quality, and integrity of all documents generated within our insurance platform
- These documents play a vital role in delivering policies, contracts, and legal communications, making them essential to the customer experience and the overall platform’s success
- As an engineer on the Documents team, you will actively contribute to the development and execution of key projects
- You will lead small-scale initiatives while collaborating with your peers and cross-functional teams, ensuring the reliability and scalability of our document systems
- In this role, you’ll work closely with product and business stakeholders to ensure the alignment of document outputs with business requirements, while driving improvements in document generation and quality
- You’ll participate in on-call rotations, contributing to maintaining operational stability, and will be an active participant in agile practices like sprints, retrospectives, and planning sessions
- As an engineer, you'll have opportunities to step into leadership roles, guide junior team members, and make impactful contributions to both team success and broader platform goals
- Write scalable, efficient, and maintainable code with a focus on performance, security, and reliability
- Develop and execute comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, ensuring code is deployed with confidence and high quality
- Implement robust alerting, monitoring, and dashboarding solutions to proactively maintain operational stability and system observability
- Lead small-scale projects independently or collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams on medium to large projects, partnering with stakeholders for successful delivery
- Participate in peer code reviews, contributing to team knowledge sharing and maintaining coding best practices

This trend has emerged as more companies move to cloud-based networks following the increase of out-of-office work, thus increasing the risk of cyber attacks. However, many cutting-edge cyber defences are too expensive for many companies.
Coalition’s joint offering of cyber security tools, a risk management platform, and cyber insurance allows companies to manage the ever-present risk of cyber threats.
The company has made a strong start since its 2017 launch, raising nearly $800 million in funding. There are a number of other fast-growth startups in the cybersecurity space, including Wiz and Orca Security, but Coalition’s shrewd insurance-based model is what sets it apart from the competition. The company has set out on a path toward global expansion, branching out from the US and Canadian markets to bring its solutions to the UK, whilst also acquiring smaller competitors like JUMBO.
