Who you are
- 8+ years of hands-on experience building full stack web applications. Familiarity with Typescript, React, Node, and Go is preferred but not required
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for delivering impactful solutions
- Proven ability to work closely with Product and Design teams to define requirements for new features in a fast-paced iterative environment, and to be a self-starter when Product and Design aren’t available
- You write code that can be easily understood by others, with an eye towards maintainability
- You hold yourself and others to a high bar when working with production systems
- You value high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices
- Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills; committed to continuous learning about emerging technologies and mobile best practices
- Experience utilizing AI tooling to enhance daily engineering efficiency
What the job involves
- LaunchDarkly is seeking an experienced Full Stack Engineer to join our Feature Management team
- This team’s mission is to empower developers with best-in-class controls and insights for managing software features
- LaunchDarkly is best known for its Feature Management product, and in this role you’ll be at the forefront of impacting developers in this highly visible area
- You’ll build features and tooling that are critically embedded throughout the software development lifecycle
- You’ll enable developers improve their efficiency with seamless control of their software releases
- Design and implement developer-first tooling such as MCP servers and browser toolbars
- Deeply understand developer workflows so that you can streamline developer experiences. Directly influence the developer roadmap and experiential details by representing the voice of the developer
- Lead a small team of engineers towards delivering impactful developer-focused initiatives, including defining product requirements on occasion. After all, nobody can understand the developer persona better than an actual developer!
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, UX designers, and engineers to create cohesive, end-to-end developer experiences
- Participate actively in architecture planning, code reviews, and mentoring peers in full-stack best practices
- As part of our you-build-it-you-run-it culture, all developers may be responsible of support applications in production, including on-call
Our take
Feature flags are a powerful software development tool, allowing teams to modify system behavior without changing code, therefore minimizing risk. If a business has a new feature they want to test, they can then roll it out to a small set of users before letting it go live. These companies can, for example, get quick feedback on the new feature and fix any bugs, or roll back any changes.
LaunchDarkly allows companies to run tests like this by activating the new code for only a small set of users prior to launch. Typically running these tests requires lots of developer time - a daunting and expensive prospect for most rapidly growing businesses - and can risk disruption to the user experience if testing takes place on the live product.
The platform is used by more than 1,500 customers, including the likes of IBM, Intuit and Atlassian. Signalling a change in strategy, the company shook up its management in 2023 and is now aiming to scale its already strong growth under the leadership of Dan Rogers, a product and marketing specialist with an impressive track record at Rubrik, AWS and Microsoft. It is now well poised to develop into a leading business in the feature management space.
