Role
Who you are
- 3-5 years’ experience as a mobile app developer
- Senior level experience in modern JavaScript applications written with ECMAScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React, Next.js, etc
- Experience designing and developing HTTP APIs in Node.js
- Understanding of DevOps/modern infrastructure practices (AWS, Docker/Kubernetes, CI, etc) and a desire to learn more
- Experience in (automated) testing (unit, integration, E2E, etc) and a keen interest in testing your code Understanding of distributed systems design, including building for resilience and cloud architectural patterns Experience working in autonomous agile environments

What the job involves
- An exciting opportunity awaits you as Senior Sotfware Developer in our Digital Technology team. As Senior Software Developer you’ll be working with product owners, business analysts, scrum masters, and engineers to implement features across our estate of cloud native software products and services. We’re working in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, hosted on AWS with Kubernetes, with a fully automated continuous integration pipeline
- Work as an integral part of an agile team contributing towards the planning and development of the systems the team use
- Collaborate with engineers, Product Owners and Business Analysts to define solutions, ways of working and share knowledge across the department
- Review code and providing support to other members of the team
- Work on client-facing applications in React/Next.js and our mobile app in React Native
- Design and build Node.js/GraphQL APIs
- Maintain and improve the quality of the software we deliver, the codebases we work on and the tooling we use
- Regularly deploy code to production
- Lead a workstream/project/team
- Mentor/coach less experienced developers in the team
- Help to identify and resolve reported issues
- Keep our customers' data safe

Our take
Since 1994, Eurostar has been the only high speed train that travels directly between the UK, France, Belgium and the Netherlands using the Channel Tunnel. Capable of top speeds exceeding 180 miles per hour, the Eurostar carries thousands of passengers a day between western European capitals.
Recently Eurostar has faced difficulties, with trains running almost a third empty due to bottlenecks in stations, caused by the regulatory effects of Brexit and a shortage of station and border control staff. Eurostar has responded by consolidating its operations, discontinuing journeys to Ashford and Disneyland Paris to focus on its core offering.
Eurostar acquired Thalys in 2022, a train operator using the high-speed network between Paris and Brussels. The company has integrated the two companies' branding, and is uniting the booking systems and loyalty schemes to offer a single package to customers anywhere on the network. It is hoped that this will offset the recent slump in customer numbers and allow Eurostar to reach its goal of 30 million passengers by 2030, which a new carbon-neutral Amsterdam terminal will also aid in reaching.
