Role
Who you are
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters or PhD degree with an expected graduation date between December 2025 and June 2027
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and Python
- Hands-on engineering experience in university programs/courses in the areas of radar-based perception, signal processing, sensor fusion, and path planning
- Must be either a rising sophomore, junior, or senior in college
- Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, transcripts are required
- Must be an enrolled student at both the time of application AND at the time the internship begins
- Must be able to work 40 hours a week for 12 weeks (full-time for 3 months)
What the job involves
- Wisk’s internship experience is a 12 week, hands-on program
- We are looking for an Autonomy Flight Systems Intern to join our team for summer 2025
- You will be part of the Conflict Detection & Resolution (CD&R) team that is responsible to develop and integrate systems to detect and avoid air traffic, terrain, and ground obstacles
- The CD&R team is a 12 person team inside the larger Autoflight & Navigation team within the Autonomy & Airspace Integration organization
- Depending on your skillsets and areas of interest, your work will focus on one or some of the following topics:
- Generation of traffic, terrain, and ground obstacle encounters for Monte-Carlo simulations
- Improving our simulation and flight data analysis pipeline for traffic avoidance and terrain avoidance functionalities
- Perform literature review and develop obstacle detection algorithms
- Improve the Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipeline for the CD&R codebase
Our take
Wisk is developing the first autonomous electric vertical takeoff and landing air taxi. Its 4-passenger vehicles are powered by the company's autonomy platform that leverages decision-making logic software to allow the taxis to operate safely and autonomously.
The team at Wisk has been working on this flagship project since 2010, having developed multiple generations of aircraft and conducted over 1500 test flights. It is now on its Generation 6 model that boasts improvements to configuration and a larger passenger cabin compared to its predecessors.
In 2023, Wisk became a fully-owned subsidiary of Boeing. It still operates as a separate entity, but this collaboration gives the company access to the air travel giant's development, testing, and certification expertise. In 2024 Wisk acquired Verocel, a software verification and validation company, a move which will play a key role in getting its air taxis certified.
