Role
Who you are
- By leading the development of Brenger's data operations, you will establish a strong data engineering foundation, enabling scalable data pipelines and business intelligence tools.
- This will empower stakeholders to make more data-driven decisions. By improving our data infrastructure and integrating predictive models for demand forecasting, route optimization, and pricing, you'll help enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction
- Your ability to build and scale data systems while collaborating with key teams will ensure Brenger can handle growing data volumes and continue to innovate as we scale
What the job involves
- Lead the setup of our data science department, designing scalable architectures and impactful data solutions to optimize operations and drive growth
- We’re looking for a Senior Data Scientist to help us tackle complex challenges and optimize our data infrastructure
- You’ll officially set up the department, design and implement scalable data architectures, build robust data pipelines, and improve our operational processes
- Your work will directly support our couriers, enhance customer experiences, and improve collaboration with partners, like Marktplaats. If you're ready to leverage your expertise in data science and data engineering to drive meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you!
- We need someone to design scalable data architectures, build robust pipelines to process large datasets, and support predictive models for demand forecasting, route optimization, and dynamic pricing
- You will ensure seamless data integration with our customers and marketplaces like Marktplaats, and work with engineers to deploy production-grade analytics solutions in cloud-based systems, ensuring reliability and low latency
- While the role starts with Data Engineering tasks to establish a solid foundation, long-term we will want it to transition to focusing on Data Science once the necessities are in place
- You’ll be joining a strong development team of 9 people, with the rest of the 50+ people team split between Business, Sales, Operations, and Customer Care
- We aim to keep meetings light. Each Monday, we kick off the week with an all-hands meeting where every department shares updates
- For communication, we rely on Slack and Google Meet for video calls and async communication, minimizing email overload. To help you focus, we’ve designated Tuesdays as meeting-free days
- Your future (tech) stack:
- Python and SQL for data manipulation, modeling, and analysis
- AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for scalable compute and storage
- Designing ETL pipelines, working with PostgreSQL, and leveraging DynamoDB or similar NoSQL databases
- Power BI or similar tools for reporting (bonus, not required)

Our take
Brenger provides a platform that connects couriers on the road (with excess space in their vehicles that are already on route) with orders for private individuals. Its solution solves two problems; individuals buying large items from online marketplaces can easily get professional transport, and couriers can fill up their trucks more efficiently.
This approach enables couriers to make more money, while also helping to reduce CO2 emissions. A milestone for the company was its partnership with Marktplaats.nl, the largest online marketplace for second-hand items in the Netherlands, which significantly broadened its reach.
Brenger is active in the Netherlands, Belgium and West Germany, with a network of over a thousand partner carriers. Growing steadily, it is well poised to achieve its aim of reducing 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, as it shoots for becoming the European sustainable standard for bulky goods delivery.
