Role
Who you are
- You are a detail-oriented and multi-skilled Product Designer, bringing a solid understanding of user experience, visual design and prototyping
- You will have a general understanding or interest in who our users are, their needs, and how to deliver experiences that are appropriate for the mental wellbeing space
- You are curious about the real world contexts in which our service is used, and will strive to improve the lives of our users alongside the rest of the business
- Strong level of visual design expertise with experience using Figma or a similar tool
- Experience using prototyping tools to help understand the problem, test concepts and communicate experiences
- Ability to synthesise and present findings and articulate design rationale
- Able to build strong relationships with Product Managers and Engineers to deliver experiences effectively and iteratively
- Familiarity with design systems, how to contribute and manage these alongside engineering
- Some understanding of different user research tools and methodologies, and how to interpret these to identify the needs of users
- Some understanding of digital accessibility and willingness to develop this knowledge
- Passionate about mental health and wellbeing
- You approach work from a growth mindset - wanting to learn and develop
- Able to act with autonomy and self direction
- Strong written and verbal communicator, with some experience leading workshops and collaborating across functions
- Keen personal interest in design and digital experiences
- Portfolio of design work
- At least 3 years of experience in product design

What the job involves
- Reports to: Head of Product Design
- You’ll be responsible for creating engaging user experiences that meet the product requirements whilst championing the voice of our service users
- You’ll bring these experiences to life by creating visually appealing, user-friendly and accessible interfaces
- Underpinning all of this will be a foundation of user research, evidence you’ll have gained by working with our User Research team or by conducting user research yourself
- Team Mission: To support Kooth’s vision of providing an easy access online mental health service to all, the team aims to translate the needs of our users into an accessible, safe and valuable product experience

Our take
Kooth offers free at the point of access mental health care to more than 5.4 million people via NHS commissioners, corporates, social workers, GPs and schools across the UK. It provides a mix of community-created content, forum sessions with other community members, and one-to-one counselling via online chat. All users sign up anonymously for the free-of-charge service and there's no digital tracking of session IP addresses. The aim is to provide a safe space where each person can get the support they need.
As a pioneer in online counselling, Kooth brings together emerging technologies with innovation in clinical practice and evaluation to create new models of care in mental health.
Kooth’s 2020 IPO came at a time when London listings were sparse. A testament to the important contribution its services can make at a time when businesses are becoming more conscious of the need to foster well-being in their employees and in the wider world. This is further exemplified by the 33% soar in share prices after a contract was announced to serve 13 to 25-year-olds in California.
