Role
Who you are
- Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a combination of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience
- The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with tax accounting and reporting under ASC 740 for a US-based multi-national corporation
- Experience with tax accounting and reporting under US GAAP in multinational context, including accounting for uncertain tax positions, and accounting for stock-based compensation
- Experience with US federal and state corporate tax and Sales tax compliance
- Strong analytical thinking and writing skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to conduct thorough tax research
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational leadership
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in a fast moving, high growth environment with ability to react quickly to unexpected challenges and opportunities
- Good business sense and ability to generate insightful analysis
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to communicate complex subject matter to leadership, peers and other levels in the company without a tax background
- Extremely well organized and able to manage work requirements to meet reporting deadlines
What the job involves
- The Director, Tax is responsible for consolidated income tax reporting as well as all aspects of taxation for the Company
- Manage uncertain tax positions documentation with external consultants, including setting the scope of work needed, provide information requested and review deliverables
- Negotiate contracts with software providers, external consultants, and tax shared service companies (subsidiaries and affiliates)
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of changes to tax laws and regulations and provide relevant updates and guidance to management
- Lead the Company’s quarterly and annual SEC tax reporting process, managing the collaboration with the Company’s SEC reporting team as well as maintaining excellent relationships with external auditors
- Partner with the outside consultants, to advise on global projects, review tax opportunities, develop forecasts and optimize tax department operations
- Lead tax compliance processes for federal, state and local income and indirect taxes
- Be the technical leader on all tax accounting matters
- Lead tax due diligence and structuring for mergers and acquisitions
- Manage federal, state, and local tax audits
- Maintain knowledge of current and proposed tax laws and analyze their impact on the Company
- Research technical tax matters and prepare documentation to support tax positions
- Support strategic tax planning, identify, recommend, and implement policies, procedures and best practices
- Continuously monitor and proactively Identify and obtain tax incentives for the company
- Oversee compliance with internal controls and SOX documentation
- Partner with Finance, Supply chain, R&D and other stakeholders to evaluate business opportunities and global initiatives
- Champion operational excellence through process improvement and technology transformation
Our take
With traffic, noise, and emissions becoming major challenges for urban life, Archer is building electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircrafts, led by its flagship model, Midnight, offering a cleaner, quieter alternative to traditional short-haul travel. The idea is simple: replace long car rides with quick, sustainable fluights that lift off vertically, fly over the gridlock, and help reduce urban pollution. It's a bold shift in transportation, but one that could meaningfully change how we navigate cities in the years ahead.
Midnight is designed to make these short flights practical, safe, and efficient. Its electric powertrain significantly reduce noise and emissions compared to helicopters (one of the biggest barriers to adopting urban air mobility at scale). However, eVTOLs face hurdles before becoming an everyday reality, including regulatory approvals, infrastructure build-out, and the operational testing needed to prove long-term safety and reliability. Archer is addressing these challenges with major manufacturing investment, deep engineering partnerships, and ongoing flight testing in the US and abroad.
Even with these barriers, Archer has been moving from success to success. The company is set to be the official air taxi provider for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. And its recent acquisition of Hawthorne Airport in LA will serve as both a launch site and an innovation hub for next-generation, AI-powered aviation operations. On the commercial side, Archer's partnerships with United Airlines and its growing international presence signal strong industry confidence. COmbines with newly expanded funding and successful long-range flight tests, Archer sure is a promising player in eVTOl aviation.
