Who you are
- We are looking for an enthusiastic person who wants to join our adventure, to be part of a company that is disrupting the market with an innovative product
- We're looking for an experienced candidate to lead the development of a new geospatial data platform using Unreal Engine
- Team leadership experience
- Significant experience in the development of complex, professional applications using Unreal Engine
- Significant experience of using a mixture of Blueprints and C++ in Unreal Engine
- Experience of using, managing and maintaining version control solutions
- An excellent understanding of:
- Integrations with external systems
- Automated data import pipelines
- Data structures
- Software architecture, design patterns and algorithms
- Agile principles
- An affinity for prioritising complex product requirements and reducing them to manageable tasks
- Be an excellent problem solver and effective communicator, with a positive can-do attitude
- Self motivated with a passion for continual professional development
- Personal, adaptable and flexible with the ability to work successfully in a fast-paced changing environment
- Demonstrates both strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently
- Must be available to attend quarterly company meetings held in the office in person
- Be human and ready to have fun
Desirable
- Experience in the creative application of engine features
- Experience in the use of web-based 3d frameworks and/or alternative game engines
- Experience of other coding languages, especially Python for pipeline management
- Experience in the use of pixel streaming in Unreal or other game engines
- Experience of GIS, data engineering, data analysis, AI, BIM, computational engineering or procedural/traditional 3d modelling
What the job involves
- We have an exciting opportunity in the technology department for a lead engine developer to join us
- Working within the Engine Team to architect, build and maintain the new platform
- Supporting a team with mixed game-engine background through the transition from Unity to Unreal, including maintenance and update of the existing platform
- Mentoring Developers in their day-to-day work, on departmental processes and best-practices. Lead by example
- Identifying issues affecting team output / performance, and facilitating the resolution of those issues
- Identifying, defining and deploying tactics, tools and solutions that achieve business objectives
- Management of team delivery, including attendance at all team planning sessions, and keeping team members briefed on changes to agreed plans / strategies
- Supporting product/project management cycles by helping the product team to prioritise requirements
- Manage interfaces with the Modelling, Data, Web, QA and Support Teams

It can look at zoning regulation, traffic gravity and solar potential of buildings – to name a few. VU.CITY is a city planning tech company creating “digital twins” for some of the world’s largest cities.
The company has already created models for 26 UK cities and has expanded internationally modelling New York and Dublin also. In short, the idea behind VU.CITY is to help real estate developers to make better design and planning decisions. This idea could have immense impact to the efficiency of cities both logistically but also environmentally which is a very appealing factor.
The smart design platform also has significant funding and partnerships, huge boosts for its next phase of growth. With this solid foundation, it will be interesting to see the large scale impact the company can have on our cities as it scales.
