Role
Who you are
- J.D. with an active license to practice law in the United States
- 15+ years of experience in product liability, regulatory, or technology law
- Experience advising on safety-critical systems (e.g., robotics, autonomous vehicles, aviation, medical devices, or consumer hardware)
- Strong understanding of AI/ML systems, cybersecurity risks, or complex technical products
- Experience supporting incident response, investigations, or safety-related disputes
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, legal, and executive teams
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving, and novel technical environments
What the job involves
- As Director of Product Safety and Regulatory Counsel, you will own the intersection of product liability law and technical safety assurance for embodied AI systems. You will collaborate directly with engineering and safety leaders to advise on risk acceptance and deployment decisions, while shaping the company’s legal and public-facing posture around robot safety
- This is a mission-critical legal role at the cutting edge of AI, robotics, and safety law helping define how society safely deploys intelligent machines in the real world. You will report to the General Counsel
- Provide legal guidance on product safety risk, liability exposure, and deployment decisions for humanoid robots
- Partner closely with Robot Safety leadership on risk acceptance, safety escalations, and regulatory interpretation
- Review safety cases, deployment readiness documentation, and internal risk assessments through a legal lens
- Support public-facing safety communications, transparency reports, and safety documentation
- Collaborate with engineering leadership to address AI safety and cybersecurity risks
- Ensure alignment between technical safety claims, legal risk posture, and external messaging
- Draft and review product safety policies, disclaimers, and end-user safety documentation
- Track and advise on emerging global regulations across AI liability, product liability, and consumer protection
- Support incident response, investigations, and post-deployment risk management
Our take
The field of robotics has advanced massively in the last few years, to the point where androids no longer belong to the realm of science fiction. 1X, formerly known as Halodi Robotics, is developing androids capable of human-like movement and behaviour, to employ in workplaces and homes across the globe.
1X's androids are strong enough to move shipments but gentle enough to handle fragile items, making them ideal for work in retail storerooms or distribution centers. In addition, they are able to open doors and take elevators, meaning it is simple to fit them into workplaces without making large adjustments.
Its home models have perhaps had the most attention, as the media and public are intrigued by the idea of an "intelligent android assistant" for the home. Although the adoption of working androids is still in its early stages, 1X has certainly made a splash in the space and may well be one to watch as it helps to shape the future of robotics.
