Who you are
- 5+ years Proven track record in a leadership position in a high-growth start-up assembling high-performing tech teams
- Experience with greenfield products and strong hands-on technical ability to execute product iterations
- Readiness to work with ambiguity in a high-paced and fast-changing environment
- Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Fluency in English and Located in Berlin or the willingness to relocate to Berlin
- Experience as a Senior / Lead Engineer in Big Tech, Scale-Ups or related companies is a big plus
What the job involves
- Assume a lead role in our development team, driving strategic initiatives and mentoring junior developers
- Advance our backend and frontend systems, prioritizing scalability, security, and performance. Your efforts will directly shape the reliability and effectiveness of our offerings
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to introduce fresh features and solutions, playing an important role in upholding code integrity, fortifying system security, and advocating for ongoing enhancements across all technical domains
- Oversee technological infrastructure, optimizing processes for efficiency
- Engage in solving complex technical challenges while contributing to the strategic development and professionalization of our platform
- First Month: Dive into understanding our system with a hands-on approach. You'll start by learning the ins and outs of our platform through pair programming sessions with our existing Team, and start to collaborate on the design and implementation of your first features, helping us grow the platform
- After Three Months: Shift focus towards the professionalization of our platform. You'll be encouraged to experiment with new ideas, enhance system capabilities, and contribute to the strategic development of our services
- After Six Months: you're driving the development team towards new milestones. You lead our development team, contribute significantly to our growth strategy and become part of our Recruiting efforts to shape the future direction of the company
Our take
With the travel industry under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, decision-makers across the sector are struggling to come to grips with the data and transparency needed to make the necessary changes. The travel industry is unique in its complexity of information layers and Squake is a start-up attempting to tackle this problem.
Squake offers a logistics and sustainability solution for travel companies via its Application Programming Interface (API) plugin. The API can integrate into existing travel logistics systems and calculate the carbon outputs for any given activity or task via analysis of national and international standards. It can then provide solutions to offset and reduce the carbon impact of the activity.
Embedded across a travel company’s booking flow, Squake’s product is customisable as per the needs of their customer. With clients including Lufthansa (from whose innovation hub it was developed), ATG Travel, and Reed & Mackay, it’s working across a range of travel-focused companies, keeping its net suitably wide. In 2023, Squake received significant VC funding and plans to use this for technology R&D, new hires, and growth in strategic markets.
