Who you are
- The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience as a strategic marketing and PR leader who has conceived, executed, and maintained elevated brand experiences for premium consumer brands, with a strong focus on both physical retail environments and broader brand storytelling
- 10+ years of experience in brand marketing and public relations, with significant experience in a D2C retail environment
- Proven track record of developing and leading retail brand executions at scale
- Established media relationships and successful PR campaign history
- Experience working with premium or luxury brands in an omnichannel environment
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities
- Robust leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams
- Ability to effectively balance multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and workplace belonging
- Passion for sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field; advanced degree is a plus
What the job involves
- Brilliant Earth is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee both our retail brand marketing and public relations initiatives
- This role will be responsible for bringing the Brilliant Earth brand to life across our approximately 40 showroom locations throughout the United States while simultaneously advancing our mission and promoting our brand values through strategic media relations and external communications
- Develop and articulate a comprehensive retail brand marketing strategy aligned with overall business objectives
- Lead the integration of brand marketing initiatives across physical showrooms, e-commerce, and emerging channels
- Serve as a critical team member in the development of new showrooms, ensuring the brand experience is seamlessly integrated into design and customer journey
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize store design, layout, visual merchandising, and overall consumer experience
- Develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies to build brand awareness and support Brilliant Earth's mission
- Cultivate and manage relationships with key media contacts, industry influencers, and editors to secure strategic coverage
- Oversee the management of PR agencies, including weekly calls, reporting, editor product sends, and celebrity/influencer gifting
- Collaborate on the planning and execution of events, including product launches, showroom openings, and special promotions
- Partner with senior leadership to define and communicate brand positioning that resonates with target audiences
- Develop and maintain consistent, compelling brand messaging across all consumer touchpoints
- Oversee the development of integrated marketing campaigns that drive traffic, sales, and brand affinity
- Create engaging PR materials, press releases, and content that support both retail and PR initiatives
- Develop and manage budgets for both retail marketing and PR, ensuring optimal allocation of resources
- Monitor campaign performance, measure key indicators, and provide insights for continuous improvement
- Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and accountability within the marketing department
- Lead and mentor team members, providing guidance and development opportunities
Our take
Brilliant Earth has been working since 2005 to provide luxury, ethically sourced jewellery direct to consumers. The company specializes in diamonds from Canada, Botswana and Russia, and successfully went public in 2021.
Sourcing conflict-free gemstones is an increasing priority in jewelry purchasing, especially for Brilliant Earth’s predominantly Millennial and Gen Z customer base. This may prove interesting terrain to navigate: whilst these generations are more inclined towards eCommerce, high-end jewelry shoppers have proven resistant to shopping online. So Brilliant Earth may need to maintain its brick-and-mortar showrooms.
Scaling up their online presence, however, may help them net a good share of what continues to be a highly fragmented market. Much may depend going forward on how far luxury jewelry customers are willing to make the digital switch in their purchasing habits. With companies like Signet Jewelers reporting substantial boosts in eCommerce sales, there may yet be an appetite for it, and Brilliant Earth's IPO in 2021 has helped it gain wider recognition.
