Software Development Engineer, ID.me

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field of study
• 12+ years experience in backend development, with a strong focus on APIs, SDKs, and platform engineering. Strong experience with API gateway architectures
• Expertise in designing and building high-performance, scalable distributed systems using Go, Python, Java, or similar languages
• Excellent problem-solving skills, a bias for action, and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges
• Significant level of ownership of systems, architecture, and designing a technical roadmap and proven expertise building Platforms
• Proven experience creating and driving technical roadmaps, working with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and other technical leaders to make tradeoff and prioritization decisions
• A proven track record of successfully building and owning distributed systems and services at scale by incorporating containers, cloud native services, and infrastructure as code driven tooling
• Proven ability to lead a team through up-leveling its automated testing skills and posture
• Experience moving an organization forward in best practices around tracking, observability, monitoring, and alerting
• Deep understanding of web technologies, frameworks, programming design patterns and paradigms
• Mastery of databases, queues, and caching systems in a cohesive architecture with experience using various technologies in the right circumstances and the ability to communicate tradeoffs

• The Software Development Engineer V will play an instrumental role in shaping the digital account experience for over 100 million ID.me customers and building the identity layer of the internet
• The Verification Infrastructure team is responsible for developing and maintaining shared services for encryption and events as well as providing a standardized interface to vendor-based verification functionality used throughout ID.me
• The team is looking to design and build ID.me’s next generation vendor orchestration platform
• This platform will serve as the backbone of our verification ecosystem, enabling seamless coordination and management of multiple vendor services to deliver unparalleled scalability and efficiency
• We are seeking an experienced backend engineer to drive the design and development of a Vendor Platform
• The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in building scalable APIs, SDKs, and developer-focused platforms, ensuring high availability, security, and extensibility
• They will have strong software engineering skills and will collaborate closely with Product teams to build and deliver scalable solutions aligned with organizational goals
• It also requires collaboration with external vendors or partners to evaluate and integrate third-party solutions when appropriate

• Architect, develop, and maintain backend systems for the Vendor Orchestration Platform, ensuring seamless integration of identity verification providers
• Design and build scalable APIs that enable product teams to efficiently interact with multiple third-party identity vendors
• Develop SDKs and developer tooling to simplify integration and improve the developer experience across internal and external teams
• Implement vendor-agnostic workflows that allow flexible orchestration of identity verification services based on business rules, compliance needs, and real-time decisioning
• Optimize system performance by designing resilient, fault-tolerant architectures with low-latency API calls and scalable data pipelines
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, security engineers, and infrastructure teams to define requirements and deliver high-impact solutions
• Mentor and guide engineers, setting best practices for backend development, API design, and platform scalability
• Raise the bar for technical excellence, engineering best practices, testing strategies, and distributed system design through pairing, mentoring, architecture / code reviews, technical presentations, and knowledge sharing sessions
• Own end-to-end deliverables through committing quality code and overseeing the work of others, with sound judgment to know what is appropriate
