Role
Who you are
- We are looking for a highly talented web engineer who can help build the next-generation provider experience!
- 8+ years of professional software development experience
- Proven track record of successfully leading large teams and delivering complex projects across product and technology initiatives
- Strong expertise in modern frontend frameworks such as React or Next.js, with proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
- Strong technical communication skills, written and verbal and a positive mindset to identify, collaborate and drive solutions
- Deep understanding of state management libraries, such as Redux
- Exposure to API Development, in Node.js, Django, Java or similar
- Demonstrated ability to make tough and sound technical decisions based on requirements, constraints, and trade-offs, paired with strong documentation skills
- Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, using frameworks such as Playwright or similar
- Exposure to alerting, logging and monitoring frameworks
What the job involves
- Headspace is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Web to join the Care Hub team
- We are responsible for Care Hub, our in-house Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and the experience of our Care Providers (health coaches, therapists, and psychiatrists) to deliver high-quality care through video and text-based sessions to our members
- As part of this engineering team, you’ll be tasked with prototyping, architecting, and coding in our Typescript/React Care Hub web app, as well as working with the underlying APIs for our chat system, clinical note-taking, and health records storage
- You will be serving as a technical leader across multiple projects, author and review technical RFCs and identify areas of improvements in our products and tech stack
- Lead projects from requirements gathering through implementation, collaborating closely with product, design, and data engineering stakeholders to identify problems and opportunities
- Drives the evolution of overall system architecture and quality of our care platform
- Collaborate seamlessly with engineering and cross-functional partners to define, design, ship, and monitor new features while ensuring robust testing and quality standards. Effectively communicate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences and keep stakeholders informed and aligned
- Apply your passion for user experience and technical expertise to design and build high impact user workflows
- Set the standard for quality and technical excellence through code and design reviews, while improving engineering processes and procedures
- Mentor junior team members, fostering their growth through open and constructive feedback
Our take
The world is facing a growing mental health crisis. In 2022, the US saw the proportion of the population with an acute anxiety, depression or other mental health need grow from 20% to 40%.
In 2021, Headspace and Ginger finalised a $3bn merger to form Headspace Health, an accessible mental health platform. It is determined to democratize mental healthcare, and its brands are already being used by over 100 million people and more than 4,000 enterprises including Starbucks, Adobe and Paramount.
There is clearly a need for virtual mental healthcare, and the market is growing increasingly crowded, with competitors including His & Hers Health. However, Headspace Health sets itself apart with its rapidly growing portfolio of services, added in part through strategic acquisitions such as that of AI health firm Sayana in 2022. It is now focusing on international expansion, offering its services directly to companies in the UK for the first time.
