Role
Who you are
- 5+ years as a Senior Product Designer or higher, including ownership of initiatives with measurable business outcomes
- 5+ years of experience designing mobile apps for iOS and Android
- Significant experience leading early-stage research and problem space definition
- Strong storytelling and presentation skills; able to rally teams around design ideas
- Background in designing digital services that improve physical-world workflows (e.g., logistics, mobility, operations)
- Deep proficiency with modern design tools (Figma, prototyping libraries, etc.) and methods
What the job involves
- As a Staff Product Designer at Mudflap, you’ll own major mobile and web initiatives, blending strategy with hands-on design
- You’ll work directly with our Head of Product (co-founder) and executive team to shape product direction, solve complex problems, and deliver intuitive experiences that make a real difference in the lives of small business operators

- Drive the strategy and execution of complex product experiences across mobile (iOS & Android) and web, turning ambiguity into clarity and shipping solutions that move the business forward
- Use research, discovery, and iterative testing to define opportunities, validate direction, and ensure we solve the right problems in the right way
- Create connected, user-centered workflows across platforms, shaping the product holistically, not as separate surfaces
- Advance our design system, patterns, and workflows; introduce new tools (including emerging AI) to raise quality, speed, and consistency across the team
- Work closely with the Head of Product (co-founder), Engineering leads, and Executive Leadership to influence roadmaps, align on priorities, and turn insights into strategic decisions
- Raise the bar for design quality, provide guidance to senior designers, and champion cross-functional collaboration
Our take
Owner-operators make up 9% of the truckers on the road, in other words 680,000 small businesses forming the backbone of the U.S’s crucial trucking industry. However, only big fleets get major fuel discounts because they have large gallon volumes, leaving these self-employed truckers to pay full price.
Mudflap is bringing those savings to owner-operators & small fleets. When drivers sign up for the app, they join tens of thousands of users which Mudflap then leverages to drive sales for truck stops which offer discounts on fuel in return. It’s a smart model which massively simplifies the process for earning discounts compared to the old route of a fuel card which requires a credit check.
Stop managers could be sceptical about working with mobile payments in return for a promise of increased demand. However, the company provides its entire network with a Mudflap tablet through which to handle all payment transactions within the network, making it easy for whoever is behind the counter.
