Role
Who you are
- 8+ years of experience in mobile software development
- Hold a high standard of quality and craft with an eye for excellent UX, engineering detail and high performance mobile products
- Comfortable with project leadership, including scoping, architecture and modeling, process refinement and delegation of responsibilities
- In depth knowledge of Swift
- Strong working knowledge of modern web technologies, specifically REST
- Preference for practicality over dogmatism
- Penchant for solving complex requirements with elegant and simple solutions
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent
What the job involves
- The Fan Monetization team seeks to drive fan engagement, retention and activation in order to reinforce the value proposition: Patreon is the home for a creator’s true fans. Our team seeks to work at multiple points to accelerate the flywheel between members as they discover, engage, convert to membership and evangelize. We leverage tools to enhance the likelihood of conversion by building delightful, retentive experiences at key points of leverage
- Lead mobile development of products that maximize fan value for of Patreon users, making them more likely to convert and retain
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineers to design, build, and iterate on monetization features
- Advocate for patterns and practices that optimize for reliability and developer velocity
- Drive clarity and alignment on technical vision and direction
- Work with a fully cross functional team to define and deliver new product features
- Build a strong product-minded engineering culture by mentoring and guiding engineers
Our take
Creatives face two major struggles in the online space: getting eyes (or ears) on their work, and getting paid for it. Patreon was founded to solve both problems with a platform that would provide a space for creators to host and promote their work, and offer supporters a way to show their support through a regular paid subscription.
Patreon has been a leader in the content subscription space since its founding, but recently has come under pressure from newer rivals such as Substack and Ko-fi. It has maintained its position by shifting its focus from being primarily a marketplace for supporters to find creatives that interest them to being a toolbox for content creators to promote their work. While the site's creatives value this approach it remains to be seen whether Patreon will be able to return to the growth it was enjoying in previous years.
Despite the inroads made by competitors and a troubling global economic outlook making finances tougher for content creators and their supporters, Patreon is still a leader in its space, with over 250,000 active creators having made $3.5B through the platform.
