Who you are

Candidates should have experience implementing systems using Python, including integrating with a diverse set of data stores and cloud services
3+ years professional experience writing web backend
5+ years professional software engineering
Demonstrated ability to apply data analysis techniques to solve complex technical and business problems
Familiarity with Linux, including Bash scripting and basic system administration
Familiarity with JavaScript development and at least one JavaScript framework
Proficiency using and developing containers for development and production environments

Desirable

5+ years of experience with system and web application development using Python
Familiarity with data backends like S3, RDS, Postgres, Redis, and Elasticsearch
Experience with Django
Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
Familiarity with Python data visualization libraries
Experience with Typescript and React
Experience implementing monitoring and alerting system using systems like Grafana, Prometheus, or Nagios

What the job involves

At Spire, the Space Operations Software team is responsible for preparing for this growth using software to automate mission management, improve telemetry monitoring, monitor ground station activity, and provide the tools needed to analyze constellation performance
As a Space Operations Software Engineer, you will be working with a small team in an agile environment. You will be working on systems and tools that improve the efficiency of the satellite fleet
Data analysis of the telemetry from Ground and Space Assets to ensure reliable and efficient performance
Build applications for visualizing and analyzing satellite telemetry
Build applications for monitoring ground station and satellite status and control satellite operations
Develop software to provide automatic fault detection, isolation, and recovery operations for the spacecraft
They will need to interface with the satellite operations and ground station teams to adapt user needs into system requirements and have the experience to collaborate and iterate on the resultant projects

There’s been an increasing focus on big data in recent years, and Spire Global aims to lead the field in the biggest data of all - Earth Intelligence - with its suite of satellites collecting data from beneath the Earth’s surface to the edge of the atmosphere.

It identifies three main areas of use for its data - Aviation, Maritime, and Weather. Its capabilities in these fields include providing over 660M position reports each day for the aviation industry, building intelligent routing and tracking systems for maritime shipping, and supplying in-depth weather forecasting and climate impact analysis.

Beyond this, Spire Global's satellite system has countless other applications, such as real-time observation in active conflicts, and wildfire tracking. Operating in a rapidly developing market for space-based data, Spire continues to expand its satellite network and capaibilities as demand for global monitoring and environmental intelligence grows.
