Role
Who you are
- We are seeking an experienced Strategic Partnerships Manager to join our team as our first business development hire
- The ideal candidate will be an inventive self-starter, strong negotiator, and creative problem solver with a proven track record of building and scaling partnership verticals from the ground up
- They identify as a builder and are deeply data-driven and thrive with minimal direction, preferring to own projects from strategy to execution
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of business development and/or strategic partnership experience. Startup experience is a major plus
- High level of overall business acumen and understanding of a variety of partner business models
- Strong analytical skills and experience with large data sets and ability to extract business insights from analysis
- Proven track record of exceeding partnership performance targets and delivering results in a complex environment with limited resources
- Outstanding deck and presentation skills and ability to create succinct and structured presentations capable of engaging executive-level stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex issues
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments with limited direction and working cross-functionally with excellent stakeholder management
- Ability to travel and source partnerships as needed
What the job involves
- Through the brand new partnerships channel, they will play a crucial role growing our member base while driving customer acquisition costs down - ultimately supporting the company's overall success
- Partnership Strategy & Program Development: Build a partnership strategy through identifying and evaluating high yield partner verticals and execute comprehensive plans to drive new members and revenue growth
- Affiliate Program Development & Management: Source, manage and optimize our affiliate program both internally and externally. Manage agency relationships and source materials and content needed to support affiliate programs
- Build Partner Business Models: Design, implement, and optimize various types of partner business models tailored to specific partnership agreements. Utilize data-driven insights to forecast revenue potential, negotiate terms, and maximize profitability for all parties involved
- Execution and Optimization: Lead the end-to-end execution of partnership agreements, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with business objectives. Continuously monitor and evaluate partnership performance, identifying areas for improvement and optimization
- Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including potential partners, industry influencers, and internal teams. Collaborate cross-functionally to leverage resources and expertise in support of partnership initiatives
- Results Measurement: Establish clear KPIs and metrics to track partnership performance and effectiveness. Regularly analyze data and provide insights to stakeholders, demonstrating the impact of strategic partnerships on business outcomes
- Market Insight: Stay ahead of industry trends, competitive landscape, and market dynamics relevant to partnership opportunities. Leverage market insights to inform partnership strategies and identify emerging opportunities for growth
Our take
Collective is tapping into the quickly growing freelance and self employed workforce with a back office platform which provides full support for accounting, tax, bookkeeping and other financial admin, essentially removing the burden from the business owner entirely.
Launched in 2020, Collective didn’t take long to receive major backing from General Catalyst as well as Ashton Kutcher’s VC fund Sound Ventures. It’s put it to great use too, with an employee headcount now in the hundreds, showing just how fast the startup is growing.
Interestingly, Collective isn’t available for any and all subscribers. Rather, it only allows applicants to become members if Collective’s advisors know they can offer real value. It may seem a counter-intuitive move, but it keeps the company’s success rate high.
The company's latest funding round, raised in 2023, supports the accelerated implementation of AI across its operations as well as expanded onboarding efforts. Collective also continues to broaden the value of its offering, for example wit the launch of an AI accounting platform for one-person operations.
