Who you are

- Strong SQL expertise and experience working with BigQuery
- Hands-on experience with GCP services (BigQuery, Composer, Pub/Sub)
- Proficiency in Python and/or Java
- Experience with dbt for transformation workflows
- Familiarity with scheduling tools such as Tivoli
- Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Harness)
- Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Version control using Git
- Experience in data operations, production support, or SRE environments
- Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills
- Monitoring and alerting implementation experience
- Experience in financial services or regulated environments
- Understanding of data governance, risk, and compliance frameworks

What the job involves
- Software Engineer will lead technical development and delivery at Team and sometimes Lab level. They can be a Line Manager who will act as co-lead with the Team PO for overall delivery
- In these cases, they will be responsible for overall tech delivery, line management & app ownership alongside their own software engineering output
- Others will operate as Individual Contributors, who are specialists in particular technology areas and will be narrower and deeper in focus

- We are pioneering the transformation of current processes from our on-premises platforms and have started our journey in deploying solutions on the Google Cloud Platform. This role sits within our platforms Analytics Lab who are looking to create strategic data products and build data and analytics capability
- We work using agile delivery practices, so a self-led individual capable of accurately estimating and planning their own work would be valued highly
- Operate and support GCP-based data platforms, particularly BigQuery environments
- Monitor platform performance, availability, and cost efficiency
- Ensure high availability and resilience of data systems
- Maintain and support ETL/ELT pipelines using Composer (Airflow) and dbt
- Ensure data quality, completeness, and timeliness across pipelines
- Implement proactive monitoring and alerting for pipeline failures
- Lead investigation and resolution of production data incidents
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative fixes
- Participate in on-call rotations for critical systems
- Manage infrastructure using Terraform on GCP
- Support CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Harness
- Work with Pub/Sub for event-driven data processing
- Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal data governance policies
- Implement data lineage, auditing, and access controls
- Collaborate with risk, security, and compliance teams
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and platform teams
- Contribute to architectural decisions and platform enhancements
