Role
Who you are
- Team members are expected to be available for scheduled on-site meetings or events a few times per quarter
- 8+ years of in-house design experience at a consumer or SaaS software company (bonus if you’ve worked with operations or marketplace software)
- Strong background in brand, communication, and marketing design, with the ability to translate strategy into compelling creative across multiple channels
- In-house brand stewardship — demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and evolve a brand system over time, beyond short-term agency engagements or campaign work
- Cross-functional fluency — comfortable collaborating with Marketing, Product, Product Design, Engineering, Data Science, and leadership to deliver cohesive customer experiences
- User research and data-informed design — deeply engage with user needs and business goals by combining customer interviews, competitive analysis, and funnel diagnostics. Proactively propose and execute iterative improvements, and validate them through A/B and multivariate testing
- Storytelling and facilitation skills — exceptional at explaining your thinking, presenting to stakeholders, and leading design jams or workshops
- Independent ownership and high-velocity execution — thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment by taking projects from insight to impact: gathering research, aligning with stakeholders, shaping the vision, and delivering polished assets across digital and print marketing, lifecycle campaigns, ad campaigns, and conversion funnels
- Polished portfolio demonstrating conceptual strength, systems thinking, visual clarity, and high-quality execution
- Fluency in modern design tools including Figma, Jitter, Webflow, Braze, and related creative software
- Formal design education (BFA/MFA preferred) or equivalent professional experience
What the job involves
- As a Designer at Mudflap, you’ll help elevate our brand and deliver impactful, user-friendly designs across key channels — from digital campaigns to print, web, and beyond
- Your work will ensure our brand feels seamless, approachable, and indispensable to the people we serve
- Customer obsession — Immerse yourself in the freight industry. Use user research and competitive insights to shape and socialize creative direction that connects strategy to execution
- Cross-functional partnership — Collaborate with Marketing, Product, Product Design, and Engineering to articulate our value proposition, evolve our brand, and deliver impactful customer experiences
- Strategic initiatives — Lead the creative execution of high-impact projects, from website redesigns and brand refreshes to ad campaigns, lifecycle/email programs, and go-to-market launches
- Creative ownership from concept to delivery — Carry ideas from early explorations in Figma through polished execution, including Webflow landing pages and Braze email campaigns
- Brand leadership & direction — Define, evolve, and elevate Mudflap’s brand vision. Balance the clarity of a modern aesthetic with the authenticity that resonates with the trucking community
- Unified design system & multichannel identity — Build and maintain a scalable brand system (type, grids, color, motion, imagery) and extend it across digital, print, social, events, and product. Partner with Product Design to ensure one cohesive brand experience
Our take
Owner-operators make up 9% of the truckers on the road, in other words 680,000 small businesses forming the backbone of the U.S’s crucial trucking industry. However, only big fleets get major fuel discounts because they have large gallon volumes, leaving these self-employed truckers to pay full price.
Mudflap is bringing those savings to owner-operators & small fleets. When drivers sign up for the app, they join tens of thousands of users which Mudflap then leverages to drive sales for truck stops which offer discounts on fuel in return. It’s a smart model which massively simplifies the process for earning discounts compared to the old route of a fuel card which requires a credit check.
Stop managers could be sceptical about working with mobile payments in return for a promise of increased demand. However, the company provides its entire network with a Mudflap tablet through which to handle all payment transactions within the network, making it easy for whoever is behind the counter.
