Who you are

3–5 years of professional software engineering experience
Required: Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails, RESTful APIs, and relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
Preferred: Experience in FinTech, payroll, or payments systems
Familiarity with AI tools, APIs, or frameworks (OpenAI, LangChain, or similar)

What the job involves

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer (E3) who’s passionate about solving complex problems with elegant, high-quality code
You’ll collaborate across design, data, and product to create features that simplify how small businesses pay, recognize, and retain their teams
You’ll be part of a high-velocity, AI-first environment where ideas move fast and impact is measurable — bringing both craft and curiosity to everything you build
Design, build, and maintain scalable Ruby on Rails services that power payroll, pay access, and employee-facing experiences
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver fintech and AI-driven features that improve day-to-day life for small business teams
Implement clean, testable, maintainable code using modern development best practices
Experiment with AI and automation to enhance performance, personalization, and operational efficiency
Support continuous delivery and observability for production systems that serve millions of hourly workers
Contribute to Homebase’s engineering culture — mentoring, sharing knowledge, and helping us ship faster with quality

Our take

Homebase provide employees and businesses with time tracking applications, with a range of other HR functionality built in. Homebase automates the process of managing employee scheduling, and also helps companies improve internal communications.

The company contributes to the reduction of paperwork in an office by turning an array of devices into time clocks that track hours and overtime, while also providing payroll support. This makes it easier for companies to remain in sync, running a more efficient operation as a result.

Given that Homebase's customer base of small businesses is not able to pay a lot for its product, scale is the key driver in the company's future success. With over 100,000 customers already, its significant venture capital backing will ensure that the company will be able to grow (notably it's investing in Canadian talent) to provide its services on a profitable scale.
