Who you are
- Someone with experience developing a successful brand
- Someone who is proactive and curious, with a willingness to explore, learn and experiment
- Someone with a keen interest in designing both online and offline experiences
- Print design experience is essential, event design experience is a big plus!
- Start-up experience is highly beneficial
- Being a cat and/or dog lover is essential!
- A strong grasp of design principles such as composition, typography, colour theory, rules of proximity, balance, proportion, hierarchy
- Expert ability to translate brand essence, values and objectives into a visual and emotional design language
- A love of storytelling, an attention to detail passion for crafting and conveying a narrative through visuals and brand assets
- An open, collaborative mindset and confidence to articulate design choices and receive feedback
- Ability to think and act strategically, consider brand as an experience and be driven to solve customer problems
- Willing and able to get stuck into all aspects of a project, from workstream planning to brief writing and executing on all brand design assets
What the job involves
- We're looking for a highly skilled, ambitious brand designer to take our branding and communications to the next level
- You must combine creativity with purpose, breathing life and passion into our vision for Napo
- Obsess over our brand to make it into a world-class representation of who we are; a brand that our customers love and which fully differentiates us from others in the market
- Combine design, insights and data to explore and push the boundaries of how we communicate our mission, values, proposition and devotion to pets!
- Establish and guard our visual and verbal identity, systematically providing expertise and guidance when required
- Work closely with the product team to ensure consistent and optimal brand representation in the experiences we create
- Create amazing brand assets for all touchpoints that illicit an emotional response and foster trust and recognition from customers and stakeholders alike
- Own end-to-end story telling for events and ad campaigns
- Team up with our product designer, pushing each other to grow and influencing the design culture at Napo

Our take
High claims and a small market have traditionally made pet insurance an unappealing option for big insurers. With household pet ownership ballooning in the UK over the pandemic, however, that market is growing, and a flurry of startups are cropping up to cash in. Napo is a relatively young entrant to the scene, offering a comprehensive platform of low-excess insurance and wellbeing services for British pet-owners.
Pet insurance customers are a different and a more discerning breed to, for example, car insurance customers. Providers need to court pet-owners with a more comprehensive suite of coverage, including advertising costs and rewards for missing pets, and bereavement counselling. Napo ticks all these boxes, but they are rapidly becoming an industry standard in a way that requires more to stand out.
Trupanion, for example, are investing in high-tech streamlining solutions to help facilitate scaling without service quality taking a hit. And the larger, better established pet insurtech, Bought by Many, recently won a hefty sum in the pet industry’s largest VC investment deal. Napo have a friendly brand, and are entering into a growing market, but will have to adapt fast to keep pace.
