Who you are
- 5-7 years of marketing experience. Maritime/shipping industry a must
- Proven track record running events, partnerships, and campaigns in EMEA/APAC
- Strong content creation skills (blogs, webinars, thought leadership)
- Familiarity with digital marketing tools (HubSpot, Webflow)
- Hands-on, resourceful, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a lean environment
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel (20–30%)
Desirable
- Additional language skills relevant to global shipping markets, particularly Japanese, Korean, Greek, Arabic, Spanish, or German
What the job involves
- Sofar Ocean is seeking a hands-on Marketing Manager to lead marketing initiatives for our Wayfinder voyage optimization platform across EMEA and APAC. This role is ideal for a versatile marketer with maritime industry experience who can operate independently, wear many hats, and thrive in a fast-moving environment
- You will be our point person for all marketing activities in these regions—driving event and partnership strategies, producing content, and amplifying Sofar’s brand among shipping operators, voyage managers, and maritime leaders. This is a fully remote role, but candidates should be comfortable with regional travel for events
- Own the marketing execution for Wayfinder in EMEA and APAC, aligned with global goals
- Identify and prioritize industry events, trade shows, and conferences; handle end-to-end planning, logistics, and on-site execution
- Evaluate which events are worth attending and define Sofar’s role (speaking, sponsorships, presence)
- Build and manage regional partnerships that expand Sofar’s visibility and credibility
- Plan, produce, and host webinars tailored to the maritime community
- Write and edit blog posts, case studies, and thought leadership pieces for the website and regional channels
- Localize campaigns and messaging to resonate with regional markets
- Distribute content
- Partner with the global marketing team to adapt and deploy campaigns
- Work with sales to develop regional collateral and event support
- Share insights on competitive activity, customer needs, and market dynamics
- Update Website as needed

This is where Solar Ocean comes in, with its global network of ocean-monitoring buoys.
It is the largest network of its kind, with thousands of solar-powered ‘spotters’ across the world’s oceans delivering over 200,000 updates every day. Its product is used primarily by climate scientists, but also has important applications in shipping, weather forecasting and maritime research as well.
Sofar is the largest network of its kind, and even though its spotters aren’t as sophisticated as similar government-funded ones, the sheer scale of its data collection makes its forecasts far more accurate. The funding it has raised is supporting the further extension of its network and development of its data services.
