Who you are
- B.S. or M.S in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or other quantitative fields
- Experience working with Go, Python, Java, or equivalent programming languages
- Knowledge of SQL and common relational database systems such as PostgreSQL and MySQL
- Experience with Javascript, Typescript, and React
- Excellent communication & problem solving skills
- Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams and work through ambiguous business requirements
Desirable
- Familiarity with container based deployments such as Docker & Kubernetes
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform or something similar
What the job involves
- The Business Intelligence team at Cloudflare is responsible for building a centralized cloud data lake and an analytics platform that enables our internal Business Partners and Product teams with actionable insights and also provides a 360 view of our business
- Our goal is to democratize data, support Cloudflare’s critical business needs, provide reporting and analytics via self-service data applications to fuel existing and new business critical initiatives
- We are looking for a Full Stack Systems Engineer to join our Lisbon team to scale our development efforts on network availability insights initiatives
- You will work on building full stack data applications which empowers our Product and Engineering team
- As all the applications we build are self initiated by the team, you will have the opportunity to get involved from designing features all the way to implementation
- In addition, you will work closely with the Data Engineers on the team to add new features and maintain our data pipelines written in Go
- You can expect to interact with various languages and technologies including, but not limited to Go, React, and Clickhouse
- Design and implement key features of our internal applications
- Work closely with a cross functional team to design features and solutions that solve critical business problems
- Contribute in improving an evolving platform architecture for scalability, observability and reliability
- Continuously involved in knowledge sharing and mentorship
Our take
Cloudflare is a multi-service global network that provides web security and infrastructure, DDoS mitigation services, and a content delivery network. Founded in 2009, Cloudflare has risen to become an industry giant, with around 25 million global internet properties on its network.
Cloudflare has been responsible for a number of admirable initiatives, offering free web protection to human rights groups, journalists, artists, and US election websites. This goes some way to counteracting the flak Cloudflare has received in some circles for the controversial groups and users who use its services. This chequered history, however, has not affected its over 80% market share in the content delivery network field.
This is perhaps in part because it has proven sharp at staying abreast of the rapidly morphing tech and digital space and customer demands. For example, Cloudflare is shifting to 100% renewable energy usage to create a zero-emissions internet, and in 2020 released a feature that would help users navigate data privacy regulations by selecting where their data is stored.
The cloud infrastructure market reached $53 billion in 2022. While the Big 3 (Amazon, Microsoft, and Google) own 65% of the market, that still leaves billions of dollars left for companies such as Cloudflare. Its ambitious and successful work is likely to continue being a crucial feature of the web, but in 2023, placed it in the crosshairs of hackers looking to exploit its infrastructure. The beginning of 2024 saw Cloudflare vow to bolster its security and patch vulnerabilities.
