Role
Who you are
- If you’re passionate about solving complex data challenges and want your work to contribute to improving mental health care, this role is for you
- Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like AWS Glue, DBT, Dagster, or similar orchestration frameworks
- Experience in Python and SQL for data processing and transformation
- Experience in AWS services such as Redshift, S3, Glue, and IAM
- Experience designing and optimizing data warehouses (Redshift, Snowflake) and managing S3 data lakes
- Experience implementing data validation, quality checks, and error-handling mechanisms
- Familiarity with data governance practices, including metadata management and documentation
- Experience optimizing data pipelines, queries, and managing large datasets for efficiency and scalability
- Experience with best practices for high-throughput systems
- Experience with data security measures (encryption, role-based access control, data masking)
- Proven track record of working cross-functionally with data analysts, data scientists, and stakeholders
Desirable
- Experience working in a high-growth startup environment, demonstrating the ability to adapt to rapid changes, evolving priorities, and scaling challenges
- Experience with real-time data processing technologies such as Apache Kafka or Kinesis
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation for managing cloud resources
- Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for data workflows
- Experience optimizing costs in cloud environments, particularly with data storage and compute resources
- Strong background in event-driven architecture and stream processing
- Effective communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Understanding of compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2) and their application in data engineering

Our take
More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.
The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including UnitedHealthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.
Though the market for tech services offering mental health provision is an overstuffed one, containing giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers do mark it out against the crowd. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. Its recent rebrand was designed to emphasize its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
