Role
Who you are
- Ideal candidates have experience as a senior-level contributor, guiding complex initiatives in both greenfield and brownfield environments with technologies relevant to our stack
- At least 5+ years experience working on a Software Engineering team with relevant technologies and methodologies
- Deep knowledge of or specialization in one or more relevant technologies in our stack:
- Proficiency in Python
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and various stakeholders across an organization
- Experience coordinating other Engineers through the delivery of a complex software project, including maintenance
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional partners and drive projects from specification to implementation
- A coaching and growth mindset open to getting and giving feedback and constantly improving yourself and others
- A strong sense of ownership of and responsibility for your work and that of the team
- An ability to be adaptable to an ever-changing and fast-paced environment

What the job involves
- As a Senior Software Engineer on the Collective team, you will make direct contributions to our codebase, lead and drive initiatives in product development, and help monitor and grow the team through technical mentoring and decision-making
- Transform initial designs and technical blueprints into remarkable, end-to-end new product features that set industry standards
- Elevate our software ecosystem by consistently crafting top-tier, production-ready code that's not only robust but also a joy to maintain
- Collaborate with the team to make key architectural and technology adoption decisions that drive the product’s scalability
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior software engineers by lending technical guidance and solutions to blockers, performing code reviews, and developing recommended best practices in order to continually improve workflows and up-level the team
- Own and implement substantial projects characterized by crucial and/or exceptionally intricate business demands by taking a direct and hands-on approach
- Partner cross-functionally with a variety of internal teams such as Product, Design, and other engineering or business counterparts to translate high-level business requirements into products and features that our users will love
- Ensure timely delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary, and highly visible projects by participating in the full development cycle: technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch

Collective is tapping into the quickly growing freelance and self employed workforce with a back office platform which provides full support for accounting, tax, book keeping and other financial admin, essentially removing the burden from the business owner entirely.
Having only launched in 2020, Collective didn’t take long to receive major backing from General Catalyst as well as Ashton Kutcher’s VC fund Sound Ventures. It’s put it to great use too, with an employee headcount now in the hundreds, showing just how fast the startup is growing.
Interestingly, Collective isn’t available for any and all subscribers. Rather, it only allows applicants to become members if Collective’s advisors know they can offer real value. It may seem a counter-intuitive move, but it keeps the company’s success rate high.
The company's latest 2023 funding round is being used to accelerate the implementation of AI across its operations as well as onboard the nearly 100,000 waitlisted businesses. it launched an AI accounting platform for one-person operations in 2024, exemplifying the savvy use of its funds.
