Role
Who you are
- At least 5 years of experience in a data engineering or analytics engineering role
- A proven track record of developing and managing Data Platforms from the scratch
- Snowflake expertise: configuring data warehouses, performance optimizations, implementing security policies to ensure data integrity and compliance
- Expert in SQL and DBT: strong track record of designing conceptual data models, developing comprehensive data tests, and establishing a clear, efficient single source of truth (SSOT)
- Ability to build comprehensive end to end Data products
- Moderate Python experience would be considered an asset
- Highly organized, with an eye for precision and a love for keeping things tidy
- Experience with SaaS and/or startups is highly preferred
- Prior experience in the restaurant industry is a plus!
What the job involves
- We are building a scalable, modern Data Platform at Owner.com. As a Data Platform Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the data landscape and driving the strategic use of data across the organization
- You will be instrumental building SSOT models in DBT & Snowflake, maintaining robust, scalable data pipelines and enhancing our data infrastructure to support analytics and data-driven decision-making
- Design and implement scalable, efficient Data Platform that supports that drives the business value
- Improve time to insight by preparing SSOT data models for all departments in the company
- Build processes to improve Data Team efficiency and quality of delivered Data Products (CI/CD, SQLFluff, Data Catalog etc)
- Optimize data ingestion and integration processes from a variety of sources, ensuring data is accurate, timely, and consistent
- Improve Data Quality within all business systems we use, sharing data integrity guidelines and collaborating with different stakeholder
- This role reports to our Director of Data Analytics, Piotr Rosiak
- You will partner closely with Data Scientists and key stakeholders from all departments
Our take
The Pandemic caused a major upheaval in the US restaurant industry. Smaller operations struggled to stay afloat amidst brick-and-mortar closures, and as the demand for home delivery soared their margins were tightened further by hefty third-party delivery app charges. Add to that the fact that consumers become customers of the delivery app, not the restaurant itself, and it’s a development that has spelt real trouble for independent locales. Owner has set out to level the playing field.
Owner’s platform provides independent restaurants with the infrastructure they need to take control of their business without deferring to third-party apps like GrubHub and Deliveroo. It offers marketing, online ordering, and support solutions to over 1,000 restaurants across the U.S. The company has taken impressive first strides, too: they have a 7 figure run-rate, over 105% monthly revenue retention, and helped restaurants avoid millions in online order platform fees.
It’s a hugely attractive proposition for independent business owners, and research suggests it’s a winning idea for consumers too. Over 60% say they’d prefer to deal with restaurants directly, but historically the infrastructure simply hasn’t been in place to do so. With Owner seeing impressive traction by tripling its customers between 2023 and 2024, it's unsurprising that its 2024 funding is being channelled into engineering and design teams, alongside the development of new tools.
