Role
Who you are
- Ideally a minimum of 5 years of experience in risk management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Financial services experience, ideally banking or large insurance businesses
- Deep knowledge of enterprise risk management (ERM), strategic risk, and governance frameworks
- Proven track record in leading cross-functional risk initiatives and engaging with executive-level stakeholders
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Positive leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication and presentation capabilities
- High integrity, sound judgment, and decision-making capability under pressure
- Relevant certifications or degree in Risk Management are desirable
What the job involves
- We are seeking an experienced strategic leader to join our Team as the Head of Risk Strategy and Reporting
- This role is responsible for overseeing the governance framework for risk management and developing the risk oversight approach for both strategic risks that could impact the long-term objectives of the organisation and Group Enterprise wide risk management
- This role is a 12 month fixed term contract
- Risk Governance & Reporting:
- Develop, implement, and maintain the enterprise risk governance framework in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements
- Lead executive risk governance committees and facilitate regular reporting, including the Chief Risk Officer’s Risk Report to executive leadership and the board
- Develop risk metric reporting and analysis to enhance and automate risk insight
- Leverage data, analytics, and technology to enhance risk intelligence and decision-making
- Group Enterprise Wide Risk Oversight:
- Develop the risk oversight approach to support the Organisations development of a Group structure and risk management framework to enable the future growth and expansion of the organisation
- Ensure risk aggregation and reporting is in place to provide an effective ‘Group’ view of risk management
- Strategic Risk Management:
- Support the Identification of strategic risks, including macroeconomic, geopolitical, market, and technological risks
- Partner with strategy, finance, and business unit leaders to embed risk management into strategic planning and decision-making
- Statutory Reporting and Risk Management:
- Monitor and ensure regulatory reporting requirements are in place for risk governance and the statutory accounts
- Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and lead a high-performing team of risk professionals specialising in governance, Enterprise wide and strategic risk
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations on key risk exposures

Our take
Starling started life focused on consumer banking, it has since found most of its success by competing in the business banking space. Its caught up with Tide and beaten the likes of Monzo and Revolut to a more complete offering for businesses.
This progress resulted in the company receiving a £100M grant in April 2019 from a body created to boost competition in SME banking, which it has used to accelerate building a full suite of digital banking products: intelligent forecasting tools, and digitally-enabled relationship management functions, as well as lending products. Since then, it has gone on to raise significant rounds of funding with leading investors such as Goldman Sachs.
As well as continuing to expand in the UK, its expanding in Europe. And its imminently launching an international bank in Dublin, which has allowed it to offer its current account across the European Union post-Brexit
Banking for small businesses has historically been ignored, even though the experience is poor. Starling is in tune with knowing what its customers want, and continues to build out its range of third-party products within its banking app thanks to support from its open API. Having achieved profitability, it currently has 26 integrations, including Xero, but that figure continues to grow.
