Role
Who you are
- We are seeking Platform Engineers who are passionate about creating and supporting DevOps tools with emerging technologies to join our team
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
- At least 6 years of Unix or Linux system administration experience
- At least 6 years of experience using build and deployment tools (Jenkins, GitHub, or Artifactory)
- At least 4 years experience with AWS
- At least 3 years experience with Docker, Terraform or Ansible
- At least 2 years experience with coding and scripting (Python, SQL, Java, JavaScript, Golang, Bash, Perl or Ruby)
- At least 2 years of experience with distributed database systems (Cassandra, ElasticSearch, or Kafka)
Desirable
- 8+ years of Unix or Linux system administration experience
- 7+ years of experience with AWS
- 5+ years experience with Docker, Terraform or Ansible
- Strong understanding of distributed stateful applications (Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Kafka)
- Strong understanding of container orchestration (Nomad, Kubernetes)
What the job involves
- As a Platform Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One
- Empower team through decomposition of initiatives and management of exceptions
- Provide technical leadership to the team and organization by designing and executing an infrastructure strategy which supports the growth of the business
- Act as final point of escalation for infrastructure incidents
- Continually evaluate and scale platform to support business
- Advance infrastructure to modern and well-managed implementation
- Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios
- Continuously improve software engineering practices
- Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies
- Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience and scalability of your solutions
- Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
- Encourage innovation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, inclusion, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization and diversity
- Utilize scripting languages like Python, SQL, Ruby and groovy, Container Orchestration services including Docker and ECS, CM tools including Ansible and Terraform, and a variety of AWS tools and services
