Who you are
- Extensive experience building and shipping native mobile applications for both:
- IOS using Swift and SwiftUI
- Android using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
- Experience with local persistence frameworks such as CoreData (iOS) and Room (Android)
- Proven ability to design, own, and evolve large-scale, production mobile applications
- Strong understanding of mobile architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture)
- Experience with mobile CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release workflows
- Deep knowledge of mobile performance, security, and offline-first or data-sync patterns
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across teams without direct authority
- Travel Requirement: This role requires approximately <15% travel, as needed to support business priorities
- Operates with high autonomy and minimal direction
- Thinks beyond individual features to platform-level impact
- Makes durable technical decisions with company-wide implications
- Elevates teammates through mentorship and technical leadership

What the job involves
- Built is looking for a Staff Mobile Engineer (E4) to lead and evolve our mobile platform. This is a senior individual contributor role with broad technical ownership, deep hands-on development, and meaningful influence across the organization
- You’ll serve as the technical owner of the Built Inspection Application, shaping its architecture, performance, reliability, and developer experience. Beyond a single application, you’ll help define how mobile engineering is done at Built - setting standards, influencing roadmaps, and partnering closely with Product, Design, Backend, and Platform teams to ensure mobile is a first-class citizen across our platform
- This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex mobile problems, thinking at the platform level, and raising the engineering bar through both execution and influence
- Mobile Engineering & Development
- Design, build, and maintain native iOS (Swift / SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin / Jetpack Compose) applications
- Own the Built Inspection Application end-to-end, including architecture, quality, stability, and long-term scalability
- Lead complex feature development from concept through production and post-launch support
- Architect secure, performant, and maintainable mobile solutions
- Ensure strong standards for testing, observability, performance, accessibility, and offline/data-sync behavior
- Technical Leadership
- Define and drive mobile engineering standards across Built, including architecture patterns, tooling, CI/CD, testing, and release processes
- Make thoughtful technical decisions that balance delivery speed with long-term platform health
- Proactively identify and address technical debt, platform risks, and scalability concerns
- Act as a subject-matter expert for mobile engineering across the company
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Product and Design to translate business needs into high-quality mobile experiences
- Collaborate with Backend and Platform teams to define APIs and end-to-end system behavior
- Influence product and technical roadmaps through feasibility assessments and tradeoff analysis
- Mentorship & Influence
- Mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and knowledge sharing
- Help raise the overall engineering bar across the organization
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and the growth of mobile engineering talent at Built
