What the job involves

Period: June - August 2026 (10 weeks)
Aberdeen’s Risk & Compliance Internship Programme is your opportunity to gain hands-on experience, explore your interests and build a career with purpose. Over 10 weeks, you’ll work on real projects, collaborate with experienced professionals and develop the skills that will set you up for success
Embark on a unique, challenging, and rewarding journey with Aberdeen. Our summer internship offers you the chance to work within our Risk & Compliance function. Here, you’ll engage in real projects, collaborate with talented professionals, and develop skills that will enhance your career
The Risk & Compliance function provides guidance, advice and challenge to support and oversee Aberdeen’s management of risks and compliance with its statutory and regulatory obligations. We design and deliver frameworks, tools, and standards to support the business in identifying and managing risks
We are made up of a wide range of specialised teams that cover all areas of risk, including:
Operational risk
Corporate risk
Technology risk
Anti-financial crime
Data Privacy
Regardless of which team you join within the R&C function, you will gain insight into how Aberdeen operates globally; getting the opportunity to work with colleagues who are experts in their field and to participate in development activities with the other interns on the programme

Completing your internship could be just the beginning. You may be considered for a place on our 24-month rotational Graduate Programme, starting in September 2027

Our take

Abrdn, formerly known as Standard Life Aberdeen, is a global investment company helping its clients to save and invest for their futures. It operates three businesses - Investments, Adviser and Personal - and has been operating since way back in 1825.

Nowadays, atop its investment and advice services, the company delivers two platforms for financial advisers. The first, Wrap, enables users to build and manage portfolios for each client. It also includes SIPP drawdown capabilities - which means advisers can choose the best platform charges when client assets are at their highest. The second, Elevate, encompasses a suite of tools for advisers to save time and make sure their clients are informed.

In 2023, Abrdn announced "adviserOS", which represents an upgrade to their platform offerings. There is limited information to go on, but the company claims this new venture will be simpler and data-led, as well as require less admin. It will be interesting to see if this new release keeps pace with tech developments across the investment space and allows abrdn to continue as an innovator.
