Role
Who you are
- BS or MS in EE, CS, Mathematics, or related discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Embedded system programming in C/C++
- Knowledge of common communication interfaces at a hardware integration level (SPI, I2C, I2S, UART, USB, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc)
- Advantageous to have experience in one or more of the following focus areas:
- Signal processing algorithms implemented in high-level (e.g. C, Python, Matlab) and low-level (e.i. fixed-point assembly) languages; with hands-on experience profiling, optimizing, tuning, and debugging of embedded DSPs
- Bluetooth Classic and BLE protocol stacks and Bluetooth Profiles (A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, etc) for embedded systems; with hands-on experience profiling and debugging using tools like Bluetooth sniffers
- In-depth understanding of modern embedded SW development processes including design, implementation, unit testing, continuous integration, version control etc
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience articulating technical concepts in cross-functional teams
- Ability to work with people with different cultures and backgrounds in different locations and time zones
Desirable
- Experience with embedded Linux and real-time operating systems
- Solid track record of shipping reliable, extensible and maintainable software
- Hands-on testing and debugging of embedded systems in a laboratory environment
- Solid understanding of Bluetooth fundamentals including Bluetooth Classic, Low Energy, and LE audio
- Experience in WiFi, including over the air analysis, and wireless coexistence
- Ability to write and modify radio controller firmware
- Exposure to acoustics and acoustic measurements
- Understanding of digital signal processing fundamentals such as sampling, dynamic range, digital filtering, fixed point vs floating point, optimizations of inner loops
- Demonstrated experience in audio and speech processing
- Embedded hardware design experience to understand constraints and challenges, tolerance analysis

- Sonos is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Developer to join the newly formed Portables Category, Embedded Systems Team
- In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for some of the core software and firmware at the heart of the industry’s most innovative portable products
- In the process, you will work with some of the brightest minds in the business across multiple disciplines of software, hardware, radio, acoustics, WiFi, and Bluetooth technologies
- This is an opportunity to join a high-performing team tasked with shaping the future of Sonos Portables from definition to launch
- Decompose problems into logical components that can be cleanly implemented and efficiently executed in software
- Develop new features and maximize the potential of new and existing technologies
- Design, build, analyze, enhance, and refactor elements of the embedded software system used to power Sonos products
- Debug complex low-level problems that may span interfaces between hardware and software
