  • Python data-science experience desirable (numpy, pandas)
  • Solid understanding of Java concurrency and high-throughput design
  • Solid understanding of distributed system architectures
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and tools (Git, Jira)
  • Experience developing REST based and Websocket protocols

What the job involves

  • The Portfolio Engineering team at Talos is focused on developing world class technology to enable investors to design, validate and implement systematic investment strategies
  • The team focuses on a number of core capabilities in portfolio construction such as a strategy backtester, a portfolio optimizer, a portfolio rebalancer, risk models and risk & return attribution reporting
  • The Talos Portfolio Engineering platform deeply integrates with our OEMS to provide world class trading and execution capabilities, providing investors with a full suite of tools to deploy innovative investment strategies at scale
  • While the platform is already very capable, we continue to invest heavily to add both new and enhanced capabilities in order to support the requirements of the fast evolving market in cryptocurrency investing
  • Your primary responsibility will be to develop enhancements and new features within the Talos Portfolio Engineering platform, which could involve the backtester, optimizer, rebalancer and the reporting engine
  • You will generally be involved in the full life cycle of the development process, including requirements gathering, writing design briefs, implementing and testing solutions, and writing supporting documentation for both end-users and internal client success teams
  • The primary backend technologies used by the Portfolio Engineering team are Java (80%) and Python (20%) using cloud native technologies across both AWS and GCP
  • Given the breadth of capabilities of the Talos Portfolio Engineering platform, you will get exposure to many facets of the stack, enhancing existing capabilities as well as developing entirely new features

Our take

So far, the increasing institutional interest in the value of crypto-assets has been stymied by a lack of scaled, efficient, and secure infrastructure that these institutions could use for trade. Talos addresses the problem of digital asset trading between institutions, helping them to securely sidestep these obstacles into a fresh market with potentially huge returns.

The company provides a range of end-to-end, highly configurable tools to populate and facilitate the institutional crypto-asset market from just one platform. Talos' approach is helping to lower the bar for wide-ranging adoption of cryptocurrency, supporting the full lifespan of digital assets trading. That said, because they’re developing the market of an entirely new asset-class, progress is accelerated and competition may have a chance to overtake.

Promising for Talos was the interest of prominent investors like PayPal and Fidelity during their Series A funding round, with the funds being used to create an institutional-grade service to help them both shape and spearhead this developing market. More recently, the company has made a number of significant partnerships, and also acquired D3X Systems, the integration of which will allow its clients to design, validate, implement and manage highly customized portfolios.
