Who you are
- We’re seeking someone passionate about executing the minute-design details that make every experience wonderful
- Know React Native inside-out: You’ve used React Native to build high-grade apps that have been shipped into users hands. You can push the boundaries of what is possible with technologies like Reanimated to create magical moments for everyone
- Skilled in Next.js with Server-Side Rendering: Experienced in building robust web applications using Next.js, particularly with server-side rendering techniques
- You sweat the small stuff: Attention to detail of the tiny things matter to you. You go above and beyond to execute on all the small design details that add to an incredible experience. You are a partner to the design team and strive to make every interaction special
- Cross-platform expertise: Making it work on one platform isn’t good enough. You strive for a delightful experience that works across iOS and Android and accounts for each platforms nuances
- Familiarity with design systems: You’ve used a design system in the past, you know when it makes sense, but also know when to throw it out the window and build something truly special
- Think like a product engineer: You don’t just write code — you solve problems. You understand the user requirements and the “why” behind your work, delivering solutions that meet the need in the most effective, elegant way. The job isn’t done when the code ships, but when the problem is truly solved for the user

What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Senior Product Engineer (React Native) to join our growing team of frontend engineers
- The frontend team build our beautifully designed Android and iOS applications in React Native and our web-app in Next.js
- You’ll get to work with the wider engineering team on influencing how we build the financial membership of the future, you’ll be deeply involved in crafting the direction of the product roadmap and invest heavily in creating delightful customer experiences
- You'll be joining a small engineering team with deep end-to-end ownership over their own development work and the technical direction of our product
- As a small team, the work you do has a huge impact and you’ll get to shape the future of engineering at Yonder
- Develop our iOS and Android mobile apps: You’ll be responsible for delivering on our product and design vision into our iOS and Android mobile apps. Using React Native you’ll be adding our latest features, iterating on our existing ones and ensuring a magical experience for all our members
- Build out our web-app in Next.js: With a freshly launched web app in Next.js, you’ll be building on the foundations the team has in place, and bringing the latest technologies to ensure we can deliver an experience on the web that rivals our mobile apps
- Closely collaborating in cross-functional squads: Work incredibly closely with our product and design teams to create magical moments across all our frontend clients that elevate us above a typical credit card
- Full lifecycle ownership: Own the development lifecycle from the ground up—defining stories, overseeing testing, and orchestrating deployments to ensure our products get into our members hands as quickly as possible
- Leading technical discussions: Lead the charge in pivotal technical discussions, influencing decisions on architecture, tool selection, and methodologies that push the boundaries of what's possible
- Mentorship and team leadership: Provide mentorship to the rest of the frontend team, building their technical abilities and knowledge in our various frontend technologies
- Spotting and driving improvements: Proactively identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, or opportunities to improve our tools, workflows, and processes. Take ownership of seeing these improvements through from idea to implementation, ensuring they deliver lasting value for the team and the product
Application process
- Stage 1: Intro call (45 mins):
- You will have an initial call with Jas Hayer to find out more about you and to tell you more about us
- Stage 2: Technical exercise (60 mins):
- This is your time to shine, we will schedule a remote pairing exercise where you will show us how you approach and implement writing code
- Stage 3: System design task (90 mins)
- You’ll be given a task to create a high-level system design for a responsive web application, detailing how the frontend will interact with backend services. We'll deep dive into your technical experience through designing a system on a whiteboard
- Stage 4: Values interview (In person): (60m)
- This will also be a great opportunity for you to meet the rest of the team so we would love it if you can come into the office for it! We want to learn more about how you work - we’ll ask you questions related to our principles (Our DNA). This stage will be with two people from our wider team
- Stage 5: We’ll also do a reference check - ideally with a previous manager on the phone
- Stage 6: Offer If everyone’s happy, we’ll make you an offer to join us - YAY! We hope to always give you a decision between each stage within 24 hours (where possible)
- We love closing the feedback loop at Yonder. You can expect specific feedback on our decision from Stage 2 onwards, and you can always ask for more
- We must complete right to work & criminal, politically exposed persons, and default to credit notice background checks for every new Yonder-er for compliance purposes because we handle sensitive customer data
- We also do reference checks, ideally with your most recent manager on the phone
- We like to move quickly at Yonder, so we will be ready to onboard you once the above checks are complete - the entire process can take between 2 - 6 weeks
