Our take
Across Europe, sparkling water is a staple in many homes, but not in the UK, where only around 8% of households use home carbonation systems. Most people either buy multi-packs of plastic bottles or use costly, single-use CO₂ canisters with poor recycling practices. And that's a problem, not just for the environment, but for people looking for sustainable hydration solutions.
CO₂ YOU began in 2021 as a one-man, bedroom-based venture aiming to simplify sparkling water with a refillable CO₂ cylinder subscription. Now the company offers screw-in, quick-connect, and tap-compatible cylinders that work with pretty much every home carbonation machines (like Sodastream, Aarke, Quooker, and more). It's a really simple solution, but one that's been sorely needed.
With over 15,000 subscribers and about 1,000 new ones every month, its fair to say the company is rapidly gaining traction. By the end of 2024, revenue topped £2M, doubling year-on-year. And its newest launch "The Bubbla" alone, brought in £20,000 in its first week. This is huge, and with investor backing, the company plans to expand into the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland and maybe even beyond, so even more people can become more sustainable with their sparkling wter.
