Who you are
- The ideal candidate brings 5–7 years of communications experience, excellent writing skills, a track record of high-impact media placements, and a passion for food, sustainability, and technology that makes a difference
- 5–7 years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or journalism, with a strong focus on B2B or product communications
- Proven media relationships and experience securing coverage in top-tier tech, business, and B2B outlets
- Exceptional writing and editing skills—able to turn complex or technical topics into clear, engaging content
- Sharp editorial judgment and an eye for compelling, newsworthy stories
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong project management abilities
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple initiatives on deadline
- Strong understanding of the technology and B2B media landscape
- Mission-driven mindset with a passion for food and sustainability
- Based in or willing to relocate to San Bruno, CA, with the ability to travel as needed (approx. 10–20%)
Desirable
- Familiarity with media monitoring and relationship management tools such as Muck Rack or Cision
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a strategic and highly detail-oriented Product and B2B Communications Manager to lead and execute media-facing initiatives that showcase our technology, business momentum, and mission.
- This role sits at the intersection of product marketing, storytelling, and media relations, and will be instrumental in shaping how we communicate with partners, customers, and the public
- You’ll work closely with product, partnerships, and executive teams to translate complex innovations into compelling narratives that resonate with journalists, stakeholders, and the broader market.
- Develop and execute communications strategies in partnership with product, business, and leadership teams to support product launches, B2B initiatives, and company milestones
- Drive proactive media outreach, cultivating strong relationships with journalists and editors in B2B tech, climate, food systems, and business press
- Craft high-quality content including press releases, briefing documents, blog posts, executive messaging, Q&As, and media statements
- Prepare executives and subject matter experts for interviews, panels, and press interactions through briefings, messaging guidance, and media training
- Identify and shape stories that align with broader industry trends and resonate with our core audiences—including media, partners, and customers
- Monitor and analyze media coverage to measure impact and share insights with internal stakeholders
- Plan and support media-facing events, virtual and in-person, including journalist roundtables, product demos, and thought leadership panels
- Stay on top of relevant industry news, competitive developments, and market trends to inform communications strategies and messaging
Our take
Wasted food and its decomposition do more for CO2 emissions globally than the entire airline industry combined. Whilst food waste bins run by local councils in the US do redirect the majority of food waste to recycling plants, there are still holes to plug, which is exactly what Mill is doing.
For a yearly subscription, customers can buy and use a combined waste tracking and impact app alongside the company’s purpose-made food waste bin. Unlike other bins for food waste, Mill’s product shrinks and dehydrates waste so that there’s no smell or runoff. Mill will dispose of your waste themselves, and use it for sustainable chicken feed.
With a number of high profile environmentally-friendly investors behind them, the Mill ecosystem has a range of benefits for company subscribers as well as individuals. Restaurants and offices can subscribe to Mill and help to move towards sustainability goals, whilst partnerships with local farms provide a solid revenue structure.
Mill is only available in the US, but since its successful first-gen launch in 2023, it has been using funding from that year to enhance its product offering and reach a wider market.
