Who you are
- The ability to demonstrate key relationships with decision-makers across all clients and sectors
- Able to quickly identify key clients where there are opportunities for revenue growth or new business
- Skilled at lead generation through multiple sources both on and offline
- Able to demonstrate a solid track record of business development from scratch in a competitive market place
- A commercial outlook with an instinctive ability to spot revenue opportunities and make the most of them
- Somebody that can work under their own steam as part of a fast-past commercial operation
- Experience in forecasting sales performance and pipeline within each financial period
- Ability to present at all levels of an organisation
- Events experience is essential and ideally a mix of consumer and B2B is desirable but not essential
- We are looking for someone who loves identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities and is extremely comfortable canvassing and building meaningful relationships
- The ability to think creatively and develop new propositions or sponsorship opportunities in response to customers’ needs is also a key requisite for this role
What the job involves
- New Scientist Live takes place every October at ExCeL London and is the world’s greatest festival of ideas and discoveries. In 2022, we welcomed over 23,000 attendees both in person and online. Our culturally curious visitors immersed themselves in talks from world-class speakers and loved interacting with the engaging exhibits
- You will be selling mainly directly to clients. You will be required to both generate new business and develop an existing client base of current and lapsed customers. The client base comprises corporates, universities, charities, government organisations, associations and retailers
- We have recently launched B2B Insights with our inaugural event taking place on 28th September - AI Unleashed. This is a key part of New Scientist’s strategy so we are looking for a team player who can contribute to these important events. It will involve identifying potential clients (outside our existing ecosystem) and securing sponsors against this new revenue stream
- Consistently achieve agreed sales revenue targets
- Generation of leads and prospects through the monitoring of relevant media and events, interrogating databases and the identification of additional sources of data
- Arrangement of sales appointments with correct decision makers to generate new opportunities and advance existing opportunities through sales stages. Meeting preparation to include thorough research of client and creative formulation of appropriate materials
- Delivery of meetings to include:
- Effective use of allotted time to probe client needs & improve market knowledge
- Professional and effective use of visual aids
- Control of meeting through presence and agenda setting
- Determined closing and agreement of follow-up actions
- Ability to present to groups as well as individuals, with the use of modern presentation methods and technologies
