Role
Who you are
- The ideal candidate is an experienced CPA (or with equivalent practical experience) with at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience at either a Big 4 public accounting firm or a high-tech organization with a minimum of 3 years in a revenue specific role. You should have experience from a global, growing software company that has on-premise software revenue and SaaS
- Due to the fast-paced and high growth nature of the Company, the candidate must be detail oriented, have the ability to operate effectively and independently in a rapidly growing and dynamic environment to help drive the Company’s continued growth, and a willingness to roll-up their sleeves when needed
- BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or equivalent practical experience
- 3 years of progressively responsible experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm or a combination of Big 4 and industry revenue experience, preferably with exposure to a high-tech organization
- Working knowledge of US GAAP with a focus on revenue recognition (ASC 606)
- Enterprise software and SaaS industry experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills (oral and written) and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills with the ability to manipulate and interpret large sets of data
- Detail-oriented, analytical, organized and self-motivated
- CPA certification or equivalent practical experience and NetSuite ARM user experience are a plus
- Confidence in a highly visible role
- Most importantly: a sense of humor, a curious mind, an eagerness to learn, and a positive attitude
What the job involves
- Confluent is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Senior Revenue Accountant to join our Revenue Accounting Operations team. In this role, you will participate in the global revenue accounting close process, including assisting with contract review, month-end close procedures, and the preparation of ASC 606 compliance analyses
- This position will be remote and will report to the Revenue Accounting Operations Manager
- Perform worldwide monthly financial close related to revenue, including creating revenue arrangements and plans in NetSuite, posting revenue recognition journal entries, calculating impact for contract modifications, performing reconciliations, etc., and preparing analytics and management reporting
- Participate in revenue and billing systems automation, improvement and optimization
- Work closely with the external audit team regarding any quarterly review and annual audit requirement
- Collaborate with the other finance departments and business partners to provide ad hoc research, reporting, and projects as it pertains to revenue
- Maintain and perform Sarbanes Oxley controls over revenue reporting
Our take
Confluent is a commercial company built on top of the open-source Apache Kafka project. Confluent and Kafka have developed a streaming data technology that processes massive amounts of information in real-time. The streaming database technology was developed at LinkedIn as a way of moving massive amounts of messages. The company decided to open-source that tech in 2011, and Confluent launched as the commercial arm in 2014.
While the base open-source component remains available for free download, it doesn’t include the additional tooling the company has built to make it easier for enterprises to use Kafka. Confluent's value add is in those additional tools, including a cloud version of the product and a marketplace for sharing extensions to the platform.
Confluent expanded strategic partnerships with Microsoft and acquired Immerok, and in 2023 expanded its cloud platform. 2024 saw further product expansions with the launch of the Confluent Migration Accelerator, all exemplifying how the company is living up to its name by rocket-boosting the benefits of Apache Kafka integration for companies.
Now, it looks like IBM is eyeing the company for acquisition and Confluent looks to be a natural fit. Long positioned as the real-time backbone behind modern application, Confluent would gain global scale and an even deeper enterprise reach under iBM, while cementing its role at the center of AI-driven architectures. For COnfluent, the deal would marka shift from fast-growing independent disruptor to foundational infrastructure player powering the next wave of enterprise AI.
