Who you are
- The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a solid understanding of how accounting principles are applied to a SaaS business, and a passion for ensuring accurate financial reporting through our systems
- 1 - 3 years of experience in a similar role or similar working experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel) and Netsuite
- Experience with Floqast, Ramp, and Google Workspace a plus
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
- CPA Certified or seeking CPA Certification

What the job involves
- Foursquare’s Accounting team partners with stakeholders across the organization, providing operational and analytical support to ensure Foursquare’s business continues its efficient growth
- We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented staff accountant to join our Accounting team
- This role is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional to play a key part in an evolving accounting landscape
- Prepare, review, and process journal entries, reconcile accounts, maintain the general ledger, and assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports
- Oversee the processing of employee expense procedures, programs, reports and reimbursements
- Analyze, Prepare and Reconcile AP Detail, GL Postings, accounts payable reports, including aging reports, accrual reports, and other financial statements
- Work with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and system upgrades, including assisting in the development and automation of financial reporting systems
- Support audit preparation by providing necessary documentation and collaborating with external auditors
- Ensure accounting procedures and systems are efficient, accurate, and compliant with company policies and relevant regulations
- Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested by management
Our take
Foursquare was originally built as an app to make use of mobile phone GPS to 'check in' at certain locations. Over time, it has transformed from a user location check-in app into a large location platform that provides analytics to several business and consumer products.
Foursquare operates in a crowded market, but by continually innovating, it has managed to successfully fend off competitors. However, with the likes of Google Maps and Facebook Places in the same industry, it will be continually needing to set itself apart. Foursquare shows its appeal, though: major players including Twitter, Uber, Apple Maps, and Airbnb, to name a few, use the platform.
The company has an ambitious goal of bringing "Foursquare Everywhere", with part of its strategy to grow by acquisitions. For example, it acquired Unfolded, a geospatial analytics firm, to help enhance its analysis of location data. Foursquare has also made a deal with social media giant TikTok to provide insight into users' in-store activity to monitor the effectiveness of ads on the video platform, and partnered with Constellation Network to provide insights into restaurant and retail business traffic trends.
