Role
Who you are
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- You have 5+ years of experience as a software engineer with a strong background in building scalable and reliable systems
- You have experience with or a strong interest in AI and machine learning, particularly as it applies to software testing and quality assurance
- You are proficient in Python and/or Go
- You have an understanding of mobile development principles, with prior experience in Swift or Kotlin a strong plus, or the ability to learn mobile concepts quickly
- You are a proactive problem-solver with a knack for identifying inefficiencies and building automated solutions
- You have excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively with cross-functional teams
What the job involves
- This is a chance to step into a Senior role where you won't just write code; you'll design systems that define how hundreds of engineers deliver product faster, happier, and with fewer bugs
- We are fundamentally shifting away from manual processes and existing automation frameworks that struggle to keep up, betting heavily on Artificial Intelligence and agentic frameworks to drive a massive "shift left" in our organization
- Success in this role is measured by tangible impact, including increased developer satisfaction, engineering hours saved, and bugs/incidents avoided in production
- We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Software Engineer to join our team
- You will be instrumental in building the next generation of our quality assurance platform
- You will be responsible for designing and developing advanced AI-powered tooling for test case generation, review, and execution
- Your work will directly impact our ability to provide fast, actionable feedback to developers, "shifting left" to ensure quality from the earliest stages of development
- You will play a key role in integrating these tools into our existing developer workflows, ensuring seamless adoption and maximum impact
- We are looking for someone with a strong background in software engineering who is passionate about automation and can think creatively about how to apply cutting-edge technology to solve complex quality challenges
- Pave the path: You will be the architect of self-service tooling, creating "paved paths" that eliminate developer friction and bottlenecks. Your work will directly increase the productivity and happiness of our entire mobile engineering organization
- Be an AI pioneer: You will design, build, and deploy our in-house AI tooling (using Python and Go), tackling complex problems like automatic test case generation, smart test execution, and comprehensive accessibility monitoring from design to production
- Scale and impact: You will own the strategy for integrating these intelligent systems into the developer workflow, ensuring fast, continuous feedback and ensuring a world-class, accessible experience for every rider
- Design, build, and deploy AI-powered tools and agentic frameworks to automate test case generation, review, and execution
- Create self-service tooling and paved paths that empower developers to own quality and receive fast feedback without waiting on manual processes
- Integrate new automation tools and workflows into our CI/CD pipeline to provide fast, continuous feedback to engineering teams
- Collaborate with our QA and Test Automation Engineers to understand current testing challenges and develop automated solutions
- Architect and implement accessibility testing and monitoring solutions across the entire value stream, from design to production
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and innovation
- Work with technologies including Python and Go for tooling development, with an understanding of mobile platforms (Swift and Kotlin) for integration
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialled and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app, whilst the acquisition of European competitor Freenow could add 6 million new riders to its platform in 2026.
