What the job involves
- At Halcyon, we’re building a world-class anti-ransomware platform grounded in innovation and resilience. As part of that vision, we’re looking for a mid-level Backend Engineer to join our cloud team. You’ll contribute to the development and evolution of our data platform and API services, working within a modern tech stack that blends Scala and C#
- You’ll join a team focused on building scalable, maintainable backend systems that serve both internal and customer-facing functions. Your primary focus will be on Scala services, with opportunities to shape our transition to C# where it makes sense. Prior experience with identity management systems—especially Keycloak—is highly valuable
- Contribute to feature development across our data platform and public API services, including ingestion, transformation, and enrichment of security data
- Collaborate with product and platform engineers to align on system design, architecture, and data flow
- Develop, test, deploy, and monitor Scala-based backend services that are reliable, secure, and performant
- Support our gradual migration of certain APIs from Scala to C#, ensuring consistency and continuity
- Design systems with identity management and authorization best practices in mind; hands-on experience with OIDC or SAML providers is a plus
- Maintain high standards for code quality, documentation, and operational reliability
- Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and incident response
- Support and enhance our Python-based security analysis platform, including malware analysis engines, automated threat detection, and machine learning model workflows
Our take
As cyber attacks become increasingly complex, especially in the mode of ransomware, companies such as Halcyon are becoming an ever more important weapon in the fight for cybersecurity. Though only formed in 2021, its founders have extensive experience as researchers at cybersecurity unicorn Cylance, amongst other notable companies in the sector.
Halcyon’s product stands out from similar - and abundant - offerings thanks to its melding of multi-proprietary advanced prevention engines and AI models designed specifically to seek out and destroy ransomware threats. It's the flexibility and reactivity of these two multi-tiered facets that have made Halcyon a trusted partner for companies on the Forbes Global 2000 list.
With significant funding behind it, we expect Halcyon will continue to ramp up the development of its platform's features and expand its customer base.
