Who you are
- Develop and implement the annual strategic roadmap for WEBTOON social channels with clear KPIs that align with and support measurable platform and business growth
- Work with stakeholders to ensure alignment and approval of strategy
- Clearly articulate creative needs at the campaign level, ensuring that the Creative team is best positioned to develop creative solutions that align with the social team’s KPIs and messaging is consistent with brand tone and voice
- Ensure that you translate the strategic roadmap to tactical plans that take full advantage of the social levers available to you, including but not limited to:
- Develop and maintain a program to run strategic like-minded brand social partnerships to increase brand exposure to new audiences
- Oversee and expand the Ambassador Program while developing and executing influencer marketing campaigns to drive audience growth, increase reach, and convert new users
- Grow the community by constantly engaging with the community through extensive community listening and sharing content that best portray WEBTOON’s unique brand voice
- For high profile title launches, relevant product releases, or key moments (e.g. Comicon), determine the role that organic social can and should play within the broader marketing activities by collaborating with the Growth Marketing, Creative, and Brand & Partnerships Team to support marketing campaigns across all channels
- Track performance and growth with analytics and use the findings to adjust strategy for optimizing posts
- Stay abreast of social user trends and shifting behavior to be a social trendsetter
- Lead and develop Manage social media team members to execute social channel plans and influencer programs
What the job involves
- The care and continued evolution of WEBTOON’s organic social activities is critical to success in the digital comics space in the US
- The Senior Marketing Manager – Social Media, will lead the development of the social media marketing strategy in partnership with the Executive Director of Brand and Content and create impactful social campaigns that lead to increases in brand loyalty, community growth, and ultimately user growth
- This integral role will work with internal and external stakeholders across all functions to drive organic growth of the brand
- This is a leadership role, and you will have the rare opportunity of defining an exceptional brand within social media by utilizing your experience, subject-matter knowledge, and business acumen to offer original and creative solutions to marketing and business opportunities

Our take
Content is king and Wattpad has managed to create a platform that aggregates the most loved original writing content in the world, turning the traditional publishing industry on its head.
Where authors used to submit drafts to dozens of publishing houses in the hope of getting some eyeballs on their work, Wattpad opened up the process to millions of young authors by letting them easily submit their work, and fostering a community around their software that offers feedback and help.
The e-reading platform is now looking to double down on its strategy of taking its user-generated fiction and turning it into successful intellectual property upon which original series and movies can be based. However a significant challenge for Wattpad is in producing original, marketable content from its platform given the popularity of fanfiction, stories which are based on existing intellectual property.
Another challenge for Wattpad is the current economic conditions which have affected much of the tech sector and are not sparing digital publishing. Having shelved bold plans for the future it also laid off 15% of its workforce in March 2023. Having realigned for its current business needs however, it is now well placed to weather the current market downturn.

Allen lau
(CEO)Lau attended University of Toronto where he earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering followed by a master's in the same subject. Thereafter he briefly worked as a software engineer for Brightspark before founding his first notable company, Tira Wireless, a mobile development startup. He is also the co-founder of Two Small Fish Ventures, a fund that invests in Toronto and Waterloo-based early-stage internet companies with strong network effects.
Ivan Yuen
(CSO)Prior to Wattpad, Ivan co-founded FeedM8 and served as the company’s CTO. Before that he was one of the first employees of Tira Wireless, where he helped grow the technical team and developed new and emerging wireless technologies. Ivan graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Computer Engineering and also earned an MBA from the Rotman School of Management.
