- Education & experience
- Master’s degree in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of software development experience in industry/research/open-source projects
- Software engineering excellence

What the job involves
- As a Senior Quantum Software Engineer, you will develop, optimize, and maintain PASQAL’s ecosystem of quantum solver libraries: libraries featuring algorithms for neutral-atom quantum computers
- This includes classical and quantum algorithms for graph machine learning, optimization, and quantum simulation use cases
- You will bridge research and production engineering: turning algorithmic ideas into robust, maintainable, well-tested software, while ensuring interoperability across the software stack and strong developer experience
- Improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of production codebases
- Transfer research ideas from quantum algorithm teams into production-grade code
- Produce structured, documented, tested implementations with strong quality standards
- Ensure interoperability of the application software stack with other libraries
- Actively contribute to the development and productization strategy of the quantum software stack
- Drive strong API UX with clear migration paths, versioning, and breaking-change management
- Support backwards compatibility and deprecation practices
- Promote best practices for benchmark design and statistical rigor
- Contribute to backend/platform engineering topics: job orchestration, reliability, observability
- Support packaging and release engineering
- Apply security-minded engineering practices (dependency scanning, SBOMs, SAST/CodeQL mindset)

Our take
Classical computing, using bits made up of ones and zeros, has almost reached the physical limits of its capabilities, with engineers running out of ways to fit more transistors onto a computer chip. Meanwhile, the processing demands on computing hardware only increase. Quantum computers have long been posited as a solution to this issue, with processors able to exploit quantum mechanics to perform calculations exponentially faster than any classical computer. Founded by a Nobel Prize for Physics recipient, Pasqal exists to bring quantum computing out of the realm of scientific research (and science fiction) and into the business world for the first time.
Pasqal is not alone in the race to produce quantum computers, and it faces competition from well-funded rivals such as IonQ and IBM. However, it is pursuing a different technological line - neural atom computing, which can manipulate individual atoms with laser tweezers. This has the advantage of being more scalable and energy efficient, and can run at room temperature rather than requiring supercooling.
In 2025, Pasqal closed an equity funding round from LG Electronics, a partnership which will see the companies work together to solve multiphysics simulation and optimisation challenges for LG. Having successfully built proof of concept models and overcome the technical challenges of manipulating a few and then hundreds of atoms, Pasqal is building a bespoke control system and beginning to implement quantum algorithms. Pasqal was also awarded one of five grants from the French Ministry of Defence in 2024, as part of a government plan to create 2 universal quantum computer systems for defence purposes by 2032. This new development indicates Pasqal's expansion from solely business purposes into new sectors where its technology can be impactful.
