Who you are

Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, or related field followed by 4 years of software development experience
3 years of experience building software solutions using Ruby, Typescript or Java
3 years of experience defining storage schemas for relational, document or columnar databases
3 years of experience querying data stores using SQL
3 years of experience building and integrating service endpoints using GRPC, Thrift, or GraphQL
3 years of experience building systems integrated with event processing technologies including SQS, Kafka or RabbitMQ; and
1 year of experience architecting and designing microservices

What the job involves

Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and systems across engineering teams using Ruby and Java
Build software infrastructure, including developing, testing, and deploying it
Design and develop software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design
Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation
Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine the feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
Work with engineers and cross-functional partners across the company
Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes

Our take

Stripe, nowadays a FinTech giant, spent the first few years since its founding building up its payments business, which primarily consisted of providing an API to eCommerce businesses so that they could easily integrate a payment option in their apps or websites, where before there was none.

More recently, Stripe has started to accelerate its growth with a significantly larger range of financial services including cash advances and credit cards. They also plan to build incorporation services, fraud protection, and more, diversifying its revenue away from payments and differentiating itself from its competitors.

To further expand its position, the company is extending its services to countries with vast customer potential, including Brazil, Japan and India. It is also partnering with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT - a win-win collaboration that is monetising OpenAI’s flagship products and at the same time enhancing Stripe with GPT-4, as it moves forward with intentions to "build the payments foundation for tomorrow's AI economy."
